Keeper is correct. These forums use a version of captcha, but the bot makers have figured out a way to bypass it completely. I have even modded the forum, but the bots dont seem to care...joule wrote:Wouldn't the use of captcha eliminate most of these bots?

There is a phpbb hack which requires you to choose pictures of animals and cars upon registration., and it uses javascript code to assign random numbers to pictures to display, and you can extend the picture library easily.Keeper wrote:I removed the original message, and renamed the thread.
I have worked and worked on our clan site to get rid of these bots. The only 100% effective method to use is to admin approve everybody. It's a royal pain in the ass. From what I understand, phpBB3 has made great improvements in this area. That is what WT and I are working on. I don't know what his timetable is, but I've already gotten the tech issues with converting our current forum over.
Until then, we'll have to just deal and Jeremy Piven them
