Its making fun of a good piece of Americana. First, making fun of seventies rockers like Blue Oyster Cult. The cowbell is funny. It shows up so rarely these days, but in the 70's, it was on a good many songs (Mississippi Queen, Honky Tonk Woman, Hair of the Dog, Don't Fear the Reaper...)

Ferrel is just stupid funny. The hair, the stupid sweater shirt with gut hanging out...

And Walken is hilarious. Some producers ARE obsessive like that. He's just hilarious.

I am class of 80 and grew up in the seventies, so that **** is funny right there.
