performance freeze

Hello everyone,
I have encountered freq. freezes while playing hl2dm. While moving forward, frames skip and then I am back where I started from. I can move the camera while everything else is stuck. This problem started after I played on a new, recently set-up server. Game play was fine until then. Everything at my computer looks o.k., no viruses, net config looks good etc... I have tried everything I am comfortable with to figure this out. Also, single player hl2, epis.2 play normal. I'm thinking extreme latency spikes, but my in game lag is in the 30's. The freezes get worse when I plug directly in my cable modem too! wtf? but the network seems fine at all other times. I have ATI Radeon X850, 3 Ghz. proc. on an intel mobo and 250 Gig HDD, XP pro. I am about to reinstall everything because hldm rocks. Any tech help would be great. Thanks! :?:

this happens to me when my ping is over 250. ( if I play on a server half way around the world.)

I have noticed your freezing when playing with you. To help with this sort of problem is quite beyond me, though. I can only suggest you replace the cable connecting your computer and your cable modem and see if that fixes the problem before you reinstall everything. Hopefully you will sort this out.

Call your net providers tech support and see if they can check your router and connection.
Also try turning everything off and then boot the router/modem and then your PC once the router is fully up.

ATI Radeon X850...sounds like an older card. Could be a video card issue.

I used to play hl2dm with an x800 GTO and it worked like a charm.

Check your firewall aswell.

Those X850 are beasts you can run HL2DM on max settigns easily. I have 1 and its been aawsomely excellent. It will run UT3 on at about 30fps.

Based on what you said, it's likely to be a connection issue. Can be something you touched on your settings, can be servers side, can be your internet provider, or could also be a spyware/trojan/virus/whatever.

Yeah I had an X800 GT and I could run Oblivion on high settings. I ended up upgrading because I just wanted more pretty graphics. up to a X1950 Pro

I used to play with an RX800GTO2 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 and HL2DM was a piece of cake.
