Well I looked around and didn't see any topics about this so I thought I'd ask what everyone is using for there setup??

I have:

AMD 5000+ X2 Black Edition OC'd to 3.2 Ghz
Gigabyte motherboard (will get model later)
4GB GSkill DDR2 800
2x 250 GB Western Digital HD's in raid 0
x1300 Pro 512 MB Graphics card
400w PSU (needs replacement)

Soon to be this summer:

4850(when they come out-- sometime this summer)
8GB DDR2 1066
Phenom(not sure which one yet, going to be x4 model)
1000w Corsair PSU
2x 1TB HD's set to raid 0 (Depends on cash flow)

Feel free to bash it or compliment on what i'm getting. :-)

Wow, I think you already have very good specs with GPU/PSU exceptions. The one you're about to get this summer is overpowered D:

Mine is an E8400 with 4GB DDR2 1066 and a XFX GF9600GT.

About those HD, they are VERY expensive and... do you really need all that space? I mean, 1TB is more than enough I think (They cost like 650USD each).

Well I'm thinking this summer they will drop in price and I like my ISO's :-) newegg ftw.

I take it you are an AMD fan as well.

gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l $90
Q6600 OC 3.0 $180
4GB DDR2 800 OC with FSB $70
250 GB seagate 7200.9 $ free
Corsair HX620 modular PSU $110
Razer Barracuda AC-1 sound card $60
Audio Technica ATH-A500 Head phones $100
24" wide screen CRT yes CRT monitor. plus a 21" on the side $100

I do prefer AMD only because it's typically a less expensive build even though Intel has a better set of CPUs at the moment, and thanks for the article about RAID 0 fearsome, I think I may get rid of it, and the 1000w PSU is for even further upgrades I might want later on, including crossfire with 4 cards once drivers and hardware become better for that sort of thing.

i could use some upgrade suggestions from you techy types:

Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4 GHz
(this will support an upgrade to an Athlon 64x2, but it has a 939 socket. so i think i'm fooked, no sense upgrading the cpu with the 939 socket in it's death throes. right?)

Asus A8N-LA motherboard (Micro ATX size form factor. is it worth the $ to upgrade? and if so, does a new MB come with a new bios? Or is that a whole nother issue to bother with?)

1 GB DDR1 (expandable to 4 gb, but a disclaimer that 32 bit windows is only capable of about 3.3 gb. so... is it worth it to add 2 more gb? am I stuck with ddr1, or is ddr2 possible? can i mix ddr1 with ddr2?)

GeForce 8600GT (sure, I could do better. but this was a huge improvement over the original integrated 6150L)

250 GB SATA

16X DVD(+/-)R/RW (+/-)R DL LightScribe drive

Integrated High Definition audio (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH)
(i have some sony headphones that do okay)

Samsung 22in LCD

Logitech G15 kb

Logitech G5 mouse

Well I'll answer about the 4gb limit, yes a 32-bit windows will only see up to 3.3GB of memory, so switch to a 64-bit OS and you'll get all 4GB, but really 4GB i've noticed isn't all that much of an improvement over 2 except that I've managed to turn off my page file so my system doesn't use the hard drives that often.

"If you haven't gotten the hint by now, we'll spell it out for you: there is no place, and no need for a RAID-0 array on a desktop computer."
It is true I had 2 Raptors in RAID0 and it did not give me any decreased loading times at all at least none that i could notice.
If you are goig to RAID make it the 1 that if 1 drive goes down you can still retrieve the data from the other, afriend of mine has 6x74GB raptors in this configuration.
2 for OS
2 for games and programs
2 for his business stuff

And dont let anyone kid you, haveing a l33t computer helps but its no replacement for pure game skill.
I have a pretty beefy system and I still suck.

Cellar just send me a pm what you want to know about computers. If I am unsure or you want a back up opinion you can always ask again in here. Someone can always help lol. How is the G15 KB? I'm thinking about getting a G11 because it's cheaper and I don't want the LCD screen.

the G15 is ok. i dont use the lcd, i don't know how to use the macros, and the lighted keys are bit "off center" (letters are really only half lit up). i havent really noticed any improvement over my old kb. in fact, i had to unbind the control key because its raised slightly higher than the other keys and i kept dragging my pinky finger across it at very inopportune moments.

Don't buy a Saitek keyboard. I have destroyed the W,A, D, Shift, and Control keys on two of them.
They are not very strong since they backlit them.

The Lycosa needs some serious rework on its backlighting. It is very dim and the letters are very hard to see unless the lights are off.

Also, the space bar is too close and narrow. I have to turn the whole board to hit and time the spacebar properly. Annoying.

Razer products are awesome AND annoying!

CD: Yes 939 is dead. Very. It died fast and furiously, upgrades disappearing overnight.
I prefer AMD because it is a way more stable windows platform. I get NO BSOD with AMD.
I have the 3.2 X2 6400+ Black.
It is a LIE it is unlocked!
it is very fast though and runs well at 3.37 Ghz.

Shave your back.
