I finished it yesterday.
I Hope I didn't miss anything.
If you want more info read the you tube explanation, oh and I'd advice you to watch the HQ version.
If anyone wants the video itself I'll be uploading it soon to filefront. Also, I still have the raw files, so if anyone wants the tutorial in their own language, let me know and send me the translations.
Hope I help someone with this :)

yea everything is there only thing i could question on is the the text does not stay up long enough fully understand whats being said. apart from that everything seems ok. only thing to be added i would say is the 180 turn during bhop but that cames naturally when u learn bhop and strafe jump.

As said above increase the time the text is on screen a little.
Good job.

Grr I cannot get that fast in 1 hop 500+ it takes me about 2 and then its more like 460-500 max for a few hops then slows down gradually.

Great video Onti, the only thing wrong is you make it look too easy...grrrrrrr :P
Walking Target wrote:Pause button is your friend.
Yeah exactly, there is no point in increasing the length and size of the video when you can just hit pause

great video Onti, i didnt realize how important the first jump is in getting good velocity while moving around.

this should be moved to the athletic section and stickied i think...

btw, how'd you get your cl_showpos to be soo big? did you have to edit your ClientScheme.res or is it a console command?

You can increase the size in your SourceScheme.res (if you don't have it extract it from "base source engine 2.gcf or I can upload mine for you.)

just got from school xD lemme answer everything.
First of all, thanks for the words.
I tried to make the time right to more or less read it, but I didn't delayed it more because I knew anyone can just stop the video tu read, and besides the longer the video is, the more MBs it will be, and I know some people don't care to download 80 mb or 200mb, but for people with my internet it can be a pain in the ass (specially when I had to upload it...if it would have been 200 I doubt I could have uploaded it to youtube).
EDIT: Can you post a demo of this ? :P
Well...I have some demos but as you saw, I did it on different moments and diferent places, so I should upload demoS... it's not just one...
About the showpos... yeah I edited the "Sourcescheme.res" file as jelly said. Just change a value and that's it...the only problem is that other stuff like net_graph 3 will enlarge.
There is a post done by swot here in which is says how to do it... if you can't find it send me a pm and I'll let you know.
i didn't know about the wall speed.
I've known about it for a lot ..but I don't really use it.
The only reason I included it is because there is some guy whinning at the steam forums saying it is unfair to use it because "Not everybody knows" so I wanted to make it more public than it already is :P
Besides I've heard seagull uses it, so I thought I could include it.
EDIT: Thought I would leave this stated here. The right speed is achieved at about 8 degrees to the wall
So if when aiming straight to the front you are the "90" angle (second ang value), aim at 82 or 98 depending the side of the wall.
If when you aim at the front you are at the 0 angle, use 8 or -8.
And so on...

dont worry about the length, its perfect...like Walking Target said about pause, I think if there was a longer pause, the video would lose its flow.

i'm looking around in my SourceScheme.res and i cant quite figure out which line it is to edit, some help please?

thanks Onti,

@ DEFme

net_graph "3" // [0,1,2,3] Net Graph.
net_graphpos "2" // [0,1,2,3] Set position on screen, 1 is bottom right, 2 is bottom middle and 3 is bottom left.
net_graphsolid "0" // [0,1] Net Graph Transparency.
net_graphheight "100" // [pixels] Vertical position of Net Graph.
net_scale "5" // [x] Set Net Graph vertical scale.

...put these in your autoexec.cfg, enjoy :)

net_graphpos "2" // [0,1,2,3] Set position on screen, 1 is bottom right, 2 is bottom middle and 3 is bottom left.
recently found out that if you exceed the value 1-3, you can place it more accuarately
try with net_graphpos 4, and then 5. You will see what I mean.
Enjoy ;) !

Very nice Onti, The key strokes pictures I think will help me a lot. I think I was hitting the strafe buttons too fast, also I didnt know you should hit them BEFORE you turn your mouse I was doing it at the same time.

Thanks!

WT: Is there a way we can add a copy of this to the educational vids library?

As I said, I based on many videos, one of those was yours, and yours was already good so it couldn't went wrong ;)
Thanks :)

Don't worry Para, I'll make sure to upload the video to filefront so it can be added to the library.

Very nice Onti, this is the best one I have seen yet by far. I for one would like the full version to keep instead of using youtube, so I hope you do upload one soon. Thanks and good job :D

0nti

2008-06-03 05:47:18

Yeah I think I'll leave it uploading tonight.
Resolution is 640x480, but compression is good IMO, and if you just maximize the video, you can see everything pretty decently.

So does everyone start the bhop at 90 degree turn because i do 45 when im in a scrim and 90 when im in doing a jump map.

0nti

2008-06-03 12:21:13

nah.
That's just a basic explanation.
Starting it at 90º is good, and you can usually do that on corners, but you don't have always the room or your aren't always comfortable enough to do it.
I personally use a lot the zig zag motion. in that case you kinda move your aim from 45º to 45º, so it can be easier or more comfortable, but maybe it just comes to personal preference.

EDIT: Link for the HQ video. http://files.filefront.com/HL2DM+Moveme ... einfo.html
