while viewing a long avi file the audio seems like it's in sync with the file for the 1st 30 min or so but after an hour the audio is not lined up with the video at all. Even if I open the video for the 1st time and skip to say 80 min in .. the audio is way off. the longer the video and farther in it is the more off it is.

I am using vlc.. and i believe that they are xvid videos. (this has been happening for over a year)
built in realtek soundcard.

I notice this never happens when I view m4a files or other files.

anyone have any experience with this stuff?

I notice that i can use this:: http://lifehacker.com/367558/fix-desync ... o-with-vlc

to get it in sync

There's a button you can press to delay or speed up the audio in vlc, i think ;. You'll have to do it each time though and throughout the video

I often times use the VLC player because Windows Media Player is crap and nine times out of ten gives me an "error downloading codec" and doesn't play the video (crap). So far I haven't had any problems with VLC as far as audio/video alignment but then I don't have videos that are longer than 30 minutes.

hmmm VLC used to give me problems
So I switched to k lite codec pack and I haven't had any issue since that...Maybe give it a try? :)

thanks for the replies guys.

I'm pretty sure the problem is the person who initially made the avi file to begin with. For the mean time I'm using these keyboard shortcuts.

Keyboard shortcuts:
CTRL+k (add 50ms audio delay)
CTRL+l (subtract 50ms audio delay)
