I just witnessed a member of this site in one of my clan's servers who entered just long enough to post the following message before scooting out again.

Our MOTD distinctly states "No advertising".

I find this action to be a low down act and unbecoming of an Englishman or an organization from England. Do you need us Americans to teach you some server etiquette? This person is permanently banned from our two HL2DM servers as will be anyone wearing the same tag as a preventive measure.

this site isnt european based... and its not a particular clan, obviously. its just a site for the entire hl2dm community so hopefully the game will stay alive. american players mostly and euro and canada and everywhere else. so yeah come teach all of us a lesson. lawls

This game may be heading out where you reside, but here it is flurishing quite well. I understand that this site is a community. I also know that the culprit is a forum member here as are others associated with him. My statement was directed solely towards them.

he didnt mean any harm or anything, this site has tons of resources and training vids to help everybody get good at the game

Again, I understand. I have been to this site often and have read many great things here. Nonetheless, our MOTD lists our rules clearly. We have a rotation of in game messages that also clearly state our rules. This person willfully and deliberately entered our server for just long enough to advertise this forum and then he left the server. We do not allow any advertisements aimed at convincing players to leave for another location. Our server is well on it's way to a leading rank with GameTrackers.com and tracker.thecatacombs.net. Sending players away only slows that progress.

in my defense, I did play for a little while before leaving. I didn't just pop in to advertise HL2DMU and leave. I came in cause you guys were running a map I like (dm_forgotten_sanctuary), got about 8-10 frags, then left to go find a standard gravity server. the phrase in question is a phrase bind that I always hit upon leaving a server. there are a lot of new players playing this game right now because of the ATI and Nvidia offers, and I like to point as many of them as possible in the direction of this site (which by the way will not affect your server traffic, will serve to increase it if anything by keeping people playing the game), so they can get the same help and resources that I had in learning this game so they do not have to learn it from the ground up like I did before discovering this site - which I have no affiliation with by the way, I just like to promote it when I can because I am interested in keeping people playing this game instead of quitting in frustration like I have seen quite a few do.

if you still want to ban me from your servers for that, hey its your server and that is 100% your perogative dude.

I would recommend re-writing your advertising policy to be a "no spamming advertising" policy, which is more fair to all players. It is actually quite common for people to link to their website in their gg bind, and by banning those who do so you will just earn yourself a bad reputation. Personally I've never even heard of your clan, and I know many, past and present. Coming here all upset over one bind is a really poor way to introduce yourself to the HL2DM community and will set the tone for how many people view your clan.

We are not really associated with any one country, but the site is hosted in the Eastern USA. We have members from all over the world here who still love the game and want to see it thrive...and no we don't think the game is dying, but the online community could still stand to expand a bit as we don't have the numbers of CS, TF2, or DOD going for us.

This is extremely lame, hl2dmU is not a clan site, its a site made to meet the community and learn more about the game with tutorials, downloads and the best forum for asking hl2dm questions. so "gg-hl2dm-university.com" is for nothing but to try to help other players.

I have played on there server several times. They are a friendly group that likes to play on there huge maps. They have there rules and if you go on there server you should listen to them. I believe i told them the site, but it was after playing a few rounds with them and talking to them about it.

This is not an introduction it is a complaint do we have a complaints forum? No cafe it goes.

My comment about getting threads locked was more a jest. A post like that can quickly send a topic in the toilet. Take the Walking Target thread. I thought there was a decent, and mostly civilized discussion evolving on spraying and its place in league play. One post though was all it took for the thread to turn and the conversation to be completely derailed.

Wouldn't the point of a no-advertising rule be to discourage players from going to different GAME servers? The OP subject was only linking to this site. Yes, I know that HL2DMU has affiliated servers, but they weren't linked in his chat message.
