An idea for creating awareness of HL2DM to valve

Get everyone we know to send the same email with the same message same title to valve, maybe then they will take notice, and do it once everyday until we get a response. Time to start taking extreme measures.

I'm sure they'd love that method of grabbing their attention...

Valve aren't going to care about HL2DM at the moment, especially when they're about to release L4D which they've just spent the last few years developing and without a doubt they're going to make a hell of a lot of money from.

How much would they make from fixing this game? sweeeeeeet f a :wink:

Plus if we started spamming them with the same email containing the same subject header they'd just filter it out. So it would be lots of wasted effort from us and probably make us look like a bunch of whiney kids :?

they have more than 1 team you know, they've usually got spare teams not working on anything that do bug fixes, they have teams for different games eg, the TF2 valve team, then the L4D team etc, hl source got an update a few months back because quicksilver raised awareness, if we don't take a harsher approach we'll never get one more update as long as we play HL2DM. So time to take it to the extremes.

I think you're wrong. They are all a team. They all work on the same project until it gets done. That's why the next TF2 class pack isn't coming until 2009.

i find it pretty amazing that they released updates for the old source engine games like css while they made tf2 portal and ep2 at the same time in just 1 year?

they have a few teams, as they have a couple projects going now

L4D = (CSS team)

HL2ep3 = (Hl2 team)

dods team did tf2 and updates, i am sure they are helping with the above two.

They are in business to make money from making games. You dont make money by updating 10 year old games over and over. You make money by making and selling new games which is where they will spend their time. Unless they care to make a HL3DM, they have no way of making money on DM. Most likely given the relatively small player base that is going to buy EP3 anyway, why would they waste their time.

As sad as it makes me to say it, I doubt HL2DM is going to get any major upgrades or new versions. As much as we all love it, HL2DM is not a money maker. Most people prefer noobish games that are easy to learn, not ones that have an extremely high learning curve that is only achievable by people who can play 60+ hours a week and are mosty between the ages of 15-24.

The emails wouldnt get read, so dont bother.

If we as a community really want to see this game advance, we would need to make a mod that encompassed all the fixes and upgrades that weve all been howling for- simply, cut valve out of the equation.

And no, promod doesnt count.

mail a whole box of custom hl2dm themed dildos to the HL2 staff.

If we want HL2DM fixed we will have to do it ourselves by creating a mod.

maybe if everyone in the community pitched out 20.00, valve or a mod maker would get it done. I know it seems stupid that we should have to pay again for a game we already own, but I just don't see it happening otherwise. Considering WoW players spend 15.00 a month, If 100 people contributed thats $2000.00 not too bad, possibly could be more.

1 person pools the money then passes it on, yeah right.

Considering we did $400 with the map contest, I don't think it's impossible. Whether or not it would work is an entirely different matter.

it would actually be an idea, raising money to get this game updated i would definitely pay at least 30 dollars if it meant that we could have a big update with the bugs fixed and the game converted to be run on the latest source engine with all of the original aspects like bunnyhop/strafe jump, all the things that make it special the way it is the same.

I was thinking more along the lines of hiring keeper. :sketchy:

I already had talked directly with many many Valve employees, I sent them demos with texts included explaining how and why the bug/exploit/error happends. Well, as you see, nothing changed. They told me they were checking them, heh.

I'm not saying they are evil, bad, etc. They are just busy on making newer games... HL2DM was made only by a guy who added HL2SP a MP mode. With time, they added new maps and weapons, spectator mode, and fixed a few bugs. Now it's all gone.

The only hope is to get HL2DM into Source2007. Maybe there's a chance there, lol.

Wanna e-mail them asking to fix the game? Be my guess.

I wonder if valve would be insulted by that though. Paying them to update their own game, surely, thats like sticking a fat arse sticker on all their foreheads saying "FAIL!"
By accepting that they are sending out a message to the community saying that they dont care about their customers unless they are gettin rich.....etc
Its nothing they would do. The first idea is MORE likely then the second (not saying its likely)

And correct me if im wrong but isnt dm getting ported, verified, and all? (in future)

Valve already know they failed, they released the game for free.

Honestly if I knew how to code I would fix the game in a mod, I have often thought about it but I dont know where to begin :(

If you want to leave, just do so without crying the sky is falling to the people who still enjoy playing. There were people posting this exact same thing over 2 years ago when the first season of CAL ended. Fortunately not everyone listened to the naysayers.

From our guidelines:
Additionally, please do not make threads or posts announcing that you are quitting the game. This is unnecessarily demoralizing to the community, and often ends with the quitter being found playing not long after making the announcement.
I have tried playing other games, and you know what? They interest me for about 2 months and then I come back to dm. When I find one that can hold my attention like hl2dm has (for the 3+ years I might add) maybe I will move on.
