Who here on the U is/has done/has thought about fencing?

Wouldn't be surprised if I was the only fencer on here.

never tried it but it must be surely fun ! Proffessionally it's kind of too slow though, since it's very strategic trying to find the right moment when to attack.

Only looks slow. Its actually quite fast paced. Its not always about clashing swords. And its a really good workout. Also the speed of a match is directly related tot he weapon used, there are three different swords.

Not quite, I do Filipino Martial Arts however (well used to, I trained 4 yrs in it). My boss as work used to teach fencing, but I have been too lazy to hit him up for lessons.

I built a privacy fence for my brother a few years back to close in his pool area. It turned out really nice.

I need to take an activiety oriented life long wellness course for my degree, I already did the "text book" lifelong wellness course. I tried to get fencing for this fall but it was full. So I hope to achieve this during the Spring/Summer course. This is something that has always interested me, how odd to see it turn up here. To many fantasy novels growing up I think and Conan movies.

Red Sonja ftw

It depends.. Its the easiest to understand (just hit the person and get a point, if two people hit each other they both get a point) but the slowest of the three because it takes a lot of skill to land a hit but not get hit yourself.

Most people Start out in Foil or Epee. I'm a foil fencer and its really fast compared to Epee. Saber is just for crazy people.

Easy to confuse since Escrima or Eskrima is the Filipino derivative of the Spanish word.
