let's put it this way ownege it's ironic that dear old scotty is using steam, coz that's what is powering his current GPU...

He has an old ATI card from 2003 that's just about enough to run hl2dm

I got two of these. Awesome Cards. To bad SLI doesn't work wonders on HL2DM, but it pwns for dx10 games!!! Anyways, I use to run one of these and I got 150-300 fps on all cal maps. Exception being ldr3...that never made it much past 230. Now it does :-)

newegg has awesome mail in rebate on these atm. like 35 bucks off. the overclock editon has faster core clock rates then 9800, plus its not a power whore.

BFG ftw

if your cpu can keep up with it wont bottleneck it... good. also make sure your power supply is adequate.

Well source games use lots of CPU so upgrading your card will do little if your CPU is old and weak. I had a Pentium4 @ 2.6 upgrading from a FX5700 to a X850XT did double my FPS from 30-60 but a few months later I upgraded CPU to what I have now AMD X2 4800 and doubled the FPS again whilst running max AA and AF and HDR.
Now using a 8800GT and there is not much performance difference between this and the X850XT due to the processor.

Yea I had to build a new rig because my old vid card died on my 939 system and so my new video card chosen was a GTX 260 and I'm maxing out all games at 1920x1200, including Crysis, Fallout 3, STALKER, Left 4 Dead, etc etc etc.

Obviously to do the above you would not want to have the rest of your system bottle necked, so it should be based off the rest of your system too.

yah im gonna go with a q9550 cpu so i should be good to go
