I have a dedicated server for L4D it is passworded so members of the hl2dm community can get together there as well. The server runs expert mode and can be connected to by:
connect 64.156.14.101:27015; password fusion

The problem with steam groups is that once the member toll reaches 200+ (i think) you lose the ability to expand the group in your friends list. which sucks if you're looking for some to fill a slot.

in which case you'd be better off using this group: http://steamcommunity.com/games/L4D/members

Between L4d and TF2, which game draws more players from DM?

Godammit, please get off of IRC, TF2, and L4D and play DM!?!?!
Please.

I'm sorry, but the time to play DM was a couple of years ago.

apparently, l4d and tf2 are not stealing players from hl2dm. have a look at the gameplay stats of the clans united steam community group. (thats for europe only)
