Steam Profiles

I dont know why it is, but people that have marked their profiles private even to their friends make me highly suspicious. First of all if you put any detailed personal info on it then you are just plain stupid. I can understand it for kids under the age of 15 but for the rest, what do you really have to hide? Seems to me you would like your friends at least to know what games you are playing so that they can play with you. Otherwise what is the point of having a friends list in the first place? I kind of group them in with aliasers, again I dont know why it just bugs the hell out of me. Does this bother anyone else?

Yeah I guess I meant to say under 18. But really even 15-17 year olds ought to know better than to put personal info up there.

Some people just want to be private regardless of any info personal or not, there was a massive thread on steam forums some time ago about users wanting their profiles private so Valve granted their wish, I expect many users don't even know it's possible to make their profiles private.
Only thing on my profile is my real 1st name.

I agree para. If you make your profile privtate, you can hide your VAC status if you were to get banned.

i doubt anyone is trying to hide vac standing with a private profile. id worry less about it. and @ paradox.... in todays day and age privacy is a novelty and instead of calling peops out that desire it, i suggest u stfu and deal!

most do it too hide hours or just look cool

you can still see what server they are playing even if their steam page is private.

VAC bans should be made to show even if the profile is set to private! Maybe I'll suggest that to Valve.

I shoukd be ale to trust you with seeing my profile. I get friends invites a lot and I am very reluctant to accept people whose profiles are private unless I know them pretty well. If they aren't willing to share that little bit with me why should I trust them. Dunno I just feel that they are trying to hide something.

so what you are saying is that it is ok for your profile to be private but not other people's?

no shes saying its okay for the setting to be set to private but have friends see it not private, but that its not okay for it to be set to private where your friends can't even see it.

Well, I'm not 18 yet, the only "personal" info I put is I live in Montreal lol. But yea, kind of stupid to put your steam profile to private, maybe put it just for your friends, that's ok, but to everyone, bleh.
