i'm relying info i got. Any hoax through steam should warrant caution regardless if it can or cannot crash your drive.
btw, once you and i are chatting you essentially have an opened port to my machine. You can draw from that whatever is possible once you're in.

true, but the way you stated it to us/the way it was stated to you was that accepting the friends request would crash your hard drive, which, while it would suck if it happened, is not possible.

Actually I think you have a link to the steam servers which relay the info back and forth. Until you use voice I think that's direct.

Plus even if it is direct you'll have to figure out how to inject packets into the steam chat. That in itself would be annoying to do.

Yeah, this is an urban legend. This is exactly like AIM.

"You will die if you don't forward this onto 3 people."

I got this from someone and I passed it around with the intro, "not sure ho valid the info is but is worth keeping an eye out for this".... you just can't be too careful one of the most successful ones is when someone has stolen a friends id, then they start IM, of course you accept, they are already in your friends list, you may even know them well, why not answer that call or d/l that file or even go to that youtube funny video.... so chill vultures.. :sketchy:

Well we will consider ourselves informed of the hoax. Pretty sure steam friends just uses a few ports and you are no more vulnerable than when connected by any other port.

Always run a decent firewall and you will have a good head start.

guys...this was simply a note about a possible fishy acct / hoax / vulnerability through Steam Friends invites. i personally welcome such info and don't ask questions or "investigate" further. i just block or keep in mind the name for further.
such information made available between people is part of the functionality of this cannel called hl2dmu and that’s what I meant to do. i didn't mean to make rumor thread and sorry if it looked this way.
