You can gewt youtube to always play the high quality streams.

go to "account>> "playback setup" then click "I have a fast connection. Always play higher-quality video when it's available."

use 1280x720 and upload with a high bitrate, preferably x264. You will get to use all the pixels of the new widescreen format (no black lines) and an insane you tube quality.
Add &fmt=22 for the HD quality at the end of the link (for those vids that support it).

this isnt the hq though this is HD. I have that setting checked and it always plays hq but when i go to an HD video i have to click it.

Yes in a way, but HD-DVD is only a storage medium just like blu-ray is, they do not define the quality or resolution.
