These things are a huge annoyance around my house, they mostly come out only at night and sit on the telephone wires or fence staring at my dogs who bark like mad when they see them. Worst part is when they get scared they just freeze on the spot or play dead which means endless barking in the middle of the night. Recently a big uproar was created when one of these bit a kids dog about a mile away from me, the kid hit the opossum on the head with a shovel, knocking it out, then threw it in a bucket and proceeded to dump it in the street. Long story short the kid and his father got arrested for cruelty to animals. It was such a joke as these things are the most common form of road kill around here and most people consider them pests. I rank them right up there with rats, next thing you know you can get arrested for killing a rat.
