I can see you want a lot of memory but the only question I have to ask is are you planning on running anything from it?

Hmm Neither of those have very good reviews.

I have had one made by Omega for years. I even used it to run hl2dm off of when I had my old computer with a 40 GB hard drive and couldnt fit hl2dm and steam on it. Needless to say the drive has been worked, and its still running great. I now use it as an extra back up for my files and server cfgs.

yea the acomdata is actually 100, considering you do the 20 dollar mail in rebate. :D

Just a small tip that I have is that I recommend a 7200 RPM hard drive. I didn't see a speed for it in any of the ones that you chose.

I got a Maxtor external and its pretty damn good.

I just got a 750GB external hard drive. The brand is LaCie. This thing is sick.

Ive had a WD 750 GB my book essential (i think thats right) for like 8 months now. Thing runs well, only annoying problem is that it doesnt stay on all the time. If it goes off you gotta wait 5 seconds for it to power on to browse it or any other partition of your hard drive. Good drive though works great. Never had an acomdata though.

The rebate thing is a scam, why not just charge you $20 less?
A. So they have the money earning interest in their account for a month or so.

No, they are hoping people will not do the mail in rebate so they get to keep their moniez.

Seconded, been using LaCie drives to backup my work for years and they've been very reliable.

No but a better vid card will. A better HD will let the game run a bit smoother. Its always better to run the game on an internal HD as opposed to an external one because communication between the HD and the CPU is faster and more efficient. A 10,000 RPM drive will run faster and theoretically make the game run smoother and faster but Im not sure how much it is actually noticable. Also a HD with larger cache size will run faster. I just installed a 300 GB Velociraptor in my computer so we will see if it actually makes a notciable difference over my raided raptors.

Well games usually load data into memory on map change and a hard drive that spins faster will load the data faster. In other words the tiem between maps loadign will decrease.
10kRPM dries do improve load times but they make a hell of a lot of noise and generate lots of rheat, my raptor sits idling at 33C whislt my 1TB Samsung F1 sits at 23C both have a fan blowing air onto them.
