Hello ladies and gents,

I have had continuous problems with my game crashing and I end up with an error that looks like this:

Internal drive error in IDirect3DDevice 9::Present()

I have the latest drivers installed for my video card. This is pissing me off cuz it's happening quite a bit. What happens is I'll be playing and suddenly textures will turn black, then my weapons will turn black, HUD will become a cluster f..K of yellow pixels that you can't understand then CRASH to the desktop with the above error. Any advice?

Could be 1 of 2 things.

Your video card is over heating causing instability thusly crashing.

or.

Your overclock on your video card is unstable (if overclocked).

Yeah sounds like the graphics cards is overheating or fooked, this is what happened when my old graphics card kept overheating before it died, look familiar?

Could be overheating.
My gfx card went nuts with certain Nvidia driver 180.xx I did not get an error though, just trippy colours.
Now using 178.24 with no problems.

Yes that's what mine looks like after a while, the lettering eventually turns to yellow pixels and you can't read anything. Damn, it's a Radeon X1300, perhaps it's time to upgrade!?!?

There shouldn't be an issue with cooling, I have 3 case cooling fans running full blast but then it's only when I'm in-game that I ever have this problem.

Who has had good luck with their video card? What model? I'll be doing some shopping soon.

My BFG 8800GT is going strong, coupled with an E8400 it eats FPS for breakfast.

I see it is a PCI Express 2.0 x16 card. My MB only has the PCI Express x16 slot, will this card still work or would it have to be the other way around (MB being 2.0 x16 and card being x16)?

From what I heard, PCI express 2.0 x16 cards work with the PCI express x16.

Thanks but I have only the x16 capability on my MB, will the 2.0 x16 card work with my MB?

Edit: Never mind, I re-read your post and I understood the second time around. A 2.0 x16 card will work with a x16 MB. Can someone confirm this?

90% of the time PCIe2.0 cards work on PCIe1.0 motherboards, it all depends on your chipset.

Ok guys and gals,

I'm thinking of the HD 4850 either a 512:

or the 1GB:

Any advice or recommendations for a manufacturer (Sapphire vs. ASUS etc...)?
I'm trying to stay below $200, and this is assuming a 2.0 x16 card will work on a x16 only MB.

I'd go for the 1GB and then get another on one next year when it's 1/4 of the price and cross fire it.
