To Mac users, at what framerate will a 2.4 GHz MacBook 13.3'' run HL2DM?

I might buy one. :D

You might want to consider getting a PC laptop with good specs for the same amount you were willing to spend on your mac in the first place (that will get you a very good machine, macbooks are quite pricy for the shit hardware they have) and install bootcamp and get both OS.

I see absolutely no good reason to invest in a Macbook

13 fps

Without a strong ATI/Nvidia Card, ZERO

That's like having the best looking girl in the world as a girlfriend but turns out she has a dick. Quite an expensive price to pay for looking sexy.

But ya, does anyone buy apple products for any reason except fashion? You can get twice the goods for half the price by going pc over mac, and i havent noticed other apple stuff to be any better.

Macs are purely just for show. The user interface is better, but good luck if you have a hardware failure. I would expect as the economy gets worse and/or stabilizes over the next year, Apple is going to take a big hit in their computer division. Companies that might have splurged for one of these puppies in the past will now go with the much cheaper alternative. There is no advantage over the PC when it comes to the hardware. Hands down, PCs have Mac's beat. As far as stability, I don't think you can beat XP in the PC side.

As for me, I'm leaning more and more towards linux. I have tried many distros, they even work on old old hardware that I had sitting around the house. With the memory and the hard drive size, linux runs much faster than the windows ever did on those machines. It's stable, and all the office/e-mail programs are free and open source. So not only am i starting to use this software, but I'm starting to get involved in tweaking/writing new parts to the software.

In the end, I think Linux will take enough of a share of the market that Apple and Microsoft will have to seriously rethink their business strategies. I know they have already, as Microsoft is starting to experiment with the open source side of things, and all the foundation for all Mac OS releases these days are Unix based.

Bottom line, get a good Laptop for less money and a large hard drive. Get XP downgrade, and then install a Linux distro. I bet you'll find you use Linux for most of your day to day things. And you'll have XP for any gaming you might want to do.

Take a look at those new Toshiba laptops that Newegg is pushing. I'm not sure how they compare in price to MacBooks, but they're pretty sexy.

Sager and Clevo laptops are just the best all around for price/performance, I'll even admit they poop on my Alienware for the price/performance ratio check em out foo.

that's pretty much how it is for me except with one computer... the MacOS side of my Mac is for web surfing, video editing, graphics, writing, etc., and the PC/Windows side is a pure gaming machine.

As much as I love Macs, they are not for games and I do not think they are worth it for anyone who is doing real basic stuff anyway. :x

Yeah I don't see the point of playing a game on a mac. Start the mac os to start a oprogram to boot a windows os to boot up a game? Sounds like a huge waste for just a game.

Macs are good for art, design and music but they work best when they're specialized in that imho. I use them on campus but i would neeeever buy one. Its too much money to spend if I can just get a similar or the same program on a PC.

I dont get how they're better if the hardware needed for rendering/fast apps costs 3 times PC's hardware. I wouldn't dare imagine how much i wouldve paid for having my hardware in a mac. Premiere needs shitload of ram, CS4 now uses GPU to accelerate rendering etc... I totally understand that someone can prefer OSX to anything avaiable for PC, but to say its better for design and whatnot is, as far as 2009 goes, not true anymore.

besides.

That the thing. All the macs here are not running any CS4. I only use them because I have no option in the lab I take class in.

The only place where it seems that you NEED to use a mac is for visual effects where you use a program called Shake that only runs on mac.

I can live without em and LOL at the video. xD.

I have to agree with conflict, once a long time ago, mac were it for design and art, my now ex spent one time $10,000 on a set up because he fancied himself a web designer [amongst other things] I ended up using it, the worst thing about it he got a student load for it, so he will be paying for it for the rest of his life possibly.. ROFL... that made my day

I do love my Macbook, it was a gift and if I had to money to burn you bet I have a couple of macs in my collection, realistically for the average gamer, not worth it.
