LOL< im pretty sure you're joking, if you're not then......something's wrong. :) Tool is WAY more than just insanely good music. They are brilliant guys, and they bring that intelligence to their music and videos. Justin Chancellor is far and away my favorite bassist, prolly of all time. They may be players just as good, but coupled with the sound and message Tool presents JC wins.

Tool has great music interspersed with terrible music. Their vib is look at us not conforming, were not like you, our lyrics have deep meaning even the 50% that's doggerel emo.

Aenema:
1. Stinkfist (NIN is better/not pretentious)
2. Eulogy (NIN is better)
3. H. (Postmodernist music, the worst art-form possible)
4. Useful Idiot (really awesome song after the 2 minute mark)
5. 46 & 2 (mostly a great song)
6. (a song for manic-depressents)
7. Hooker With a Penis (my favorite song on the album. But look at the lyrics, it's about a kid who tells the band they're selling out (tells you how much Tool probably cares about that) then the speaker says we've always sold out by making an album, put your finger up your ass for buying our albums. So the song pretty much calls the ppl who buy Tools albums Hookers with Penises LOL)
8. Intermission (stupid baseball stadium music)
9. Jimmy (great song)
10. Die Eier Von Satan (bad song. Piano with some dramatist talking on a phone)
11. Pushit (70% suck 30% decent)
12. Cesaro Summability (great song)
13.Aenema (cool song)
14. Ions (Trent Reznor is back in the room)
15. Thir Eye (cool song)

There's something about Tool that I just overall hate. Maybe it's that they're the worst kind of sentimentalists, they think that their feelings have some kind of greater social awareness. Their songs are all just too serious and full of themselves.

Um, you obviously didnt listen to the whole song or any of their other songs. And no chem, Im certainly not joking. Tool is a really good band, but they dont hold a candle to Opeth. Maynard isnt half the singer that Aukerfeldt is. Dont get me wrong here, Im a tool fan, but they are miles behind the musical genius of Opeth. eitehr you like tool or you don't, which is a good thing really, there's no 'they're ok i guess'. there's enough mediocrity passing itself off as talent out there. most bands are highly overrated imo anyway.

having said that I'm with trompe really. I saw them at lollapalooza 94 on the side stage back when I was into metal, they were impressive for sure. Now music has to be either fun or sexy or exciting to appeal to me, I'm afraid most of Tool doesn't fit that, talent notwithstanding

Wow, I thought you were already a fan of Opeth. You need to listen to all their albums before making a decision then. Ive heard all of Tool's stuff and all of Opeth's stuff. Until you have listened to all of their stuff, I'll agree to disagree :) Just so you know, I rate both bands above most others. They are both very unique and amazingly talented. I just personally prefer Opeth. Nothing against you preferring Tool.

As for best vocalist, I'd say Patton is top 5 easily. It's really hard to chose between him, Dickinson, Coverdale, Tate, Staley.

Tool is played out. Their best album was the first one and now they just repeat themselves except they throw in a lot of annoying filler. 10,000 Days is it for me.
I shall not steal or buy any more albums by them.

I can honestly think of dozens of bands that are more talented.
Opeth crushes Tool into dust, compacts them into a ball, and kicks them around.
Meshuggah has more talent.
Cynic has more talent.
Dark Tranquility and Amon Amarth have more talent.
Dream Theater has more talent.

I love me some Tool, but frankly they are out of ideas.
Parabola, Sober, Prison Sex... good stuff.

BUT, they are not the most talented band and in fact, seem to have run out of ideas. Every song (if you can call it that) sounds the same.

Yeah I didn't want to review every album. Tool has some great songs. The best songs have more to do with the flying sound that the guitarist, drummer, and bassist make. To me, the singer brings some of the music down. Like when he makes every hard drum beat = a syllable (like a spondee). It makes for a manic sound, but then nothing can be emphasised because it's ALL emphasised. The singers I like tend not to be so constrained by the music, but will sing an unstressed syllable on a low beat (bass drum maybe) and stresses on the high beat (like a snare). Sometimes they skip a couple beats to work above the music say with long vowel sounds or to switch between iambs and trochees (duh-DUM .... DUM -duh). Think like Robert Plant for long vowels. Jim and many others are good for trochee/iambs.

Many times here the vocals emphasises the music and the music emphasises the voicals.

Yes... the quick and dirty rule of thumb is simply to remove the other person and see if the sentence makes sense. Which ever makes sense is the one you should use.

"This is suppose to be about I" <- Wrong

hummm, not sure about that one. i look at it as a represention of the human life cycle. how we look b4 we are born and after we are dead. with the umbilical cord representing our lives. and how they will eventually lead to death, but what we do in our youth(or past) represented by the fetus, directly feeds our future.
