Ive got back into making sprays for steam games, but if theres one thing I cant do and that is to make a decent border in a picture like this

I know thers the custom shape tool, but it just dont seem to cut it and I can never get it to look neat/crisp.Is it something to do with making a new alpha channel??? then you get more flexibility with the border??

Its really bugging me,cause I spent ages cutting out this Image and I wanna add a small border.

All I find when I look for border tut's is a tut for a border round the whole pic, cant find any for a small border inside a pic!

emm those are pretty simple everything in Photoshop is always best to start and create from scratch because the templates are always poor. So first one pretty simple what you need to do you want to make a square section with aliasing on with a bit of feather for the out line then just fill that in with a colour then cut of the window. The rest are SF effects like emboss and drop shadow with a bit of light air brush work. Second is just a gradient and last is the same as the first.

if you wanna make it look like the person is coming out of the borders (like the border is over the character on the bottom, but he is over the border on top) you could try using masking.
Get both on diferent layers, select the main image and clicking on the border layer with the mask applied to it paint with dark the selected part of the character that you want to be above the border( surely the top). That would "hide" the border, and make it look like the it's below the other image.

make a full border/ frame /square whatever.

Duplicate it.

one over the zombie
one under the zombie

either delete areas , use historybrush or masks
