my dog is chewing up her paw, and is limping cause its so sore. she seems to do this every summer, i think she may be allergic to poison ivy or something from the yard. this time seems to be worse then b4. we have tried soaking her paw in empson salts and water, and i regularly clean it with paroxide. but she still seems to be chewing it. any advise?

Have you looked in the paw itself making sure there isn't something stuck in it, a rock, a small piece of glass, etc [look between toes to] if that is a no, make sure the hair there is short, because it will start creating hard spots. No cuts, not stuff in there? probably allergies, soak the paws, make sure they are nice an dry, do this regularity to wash the stuff that is giving her allergies, then pop a Benadryl into her at night to relieve the itching. Not a cure but if she is just sensitive, she is just sensitive :( gl

Is there a rash there? you can also put neosporin on it, but yeah it would be best to get your vets opinion on it.

Your dog may be allergic to wheat.. i had this problem awhile back with my Airedale terrier , try buying non-wheat dogfood (duck meat etc..) and you may find a difference, i also had the same problem with my pitbull awhile back..

Put a muzzle on its face.
What does the dog do during the summer thats different? Foods, drinks, places it goes to?

It's outdoor allergies, summer she gets to do more, see?? Neosporin is cool but not too much or she will eat it all :( Obviously a vet is best call but when you have large dogs, everything costs more :|

when my dogs do that, they have a foxtail stuck in between the toes and you really cant see it as it goes under the skin. Usually it will work its way out with the chewing and what not, but you really need to keep an eye on it as it can get infected. If it gets infected your looking at some major bucks.

having a pet is a responsibility and yea vets can be expensive but its not an excuse to avoid the responsibility. If you can't afford it then IMO you shouldnt have the pet.

airdale's are fkn nice dogs, im getting a dog next year and thats what im planning to get no matter what the cost really.

not sure what to advise on the paw issue id say take it to a vet if the things people here have posted have not worked. There a member of the family more than a pet in my view.
