Like many recent games, there are some issues upon release.

Hopefully, PC user can fix and use a workaround while console user are crying for help.

here goes:

Adjust FOV
Go to my documents\games\borderlands\willowgame

open willowinput.ini
add
Bindings=(Name="F10",Command="FOV 90",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="F11",Command="FOV 110",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
add it amongst the other bindings, change the fov to whatever you want and switch it by the corresponding keys

to turn voice chat off (it's voice activated by default)
open willowengine.ini in the same directory

find bHasVoiceEnabled=true
change it to false and you wont be transmitting voice all the time(dunno if it stops you from hearing other people)

provost

2009-10-26 23:04:52

also make sure to:

bEnableMouseSmoothing=false

Because mouse smoothing is evil.

Problem hosting games (some people needed to do this, others, not at all.. weird.)

like many other online multiplayer games, requires that you forward a few ports if you plan on hosting a game. This basically means that if you want people to join your game you need to open up a path in your internet connection for them to get there, otherwise you'll be left to loot all by your lonesome.

But don't worry! This is a pretty easy thing to do!

First, determine whether or not these ports are already open
There are some cases where port forwarding is unnecessary, such as when you connect directly to a single port cable or DSL modem.

To test for this just click each of the following links, it will tell you if the port is open or not.

7777
28900
27900
28910

If the ports were closed, we need to determine what kind of router you're using
You'll need to find the model name of the router or router/modem combo you're using. This shouldn't be too hard. Usually, the internet comes in through your modem (box connecting to the wall either through phone line or cable line) and is then passed to a router which sorts and distributes your internet connection to the computers in your house. Go find the latter, turn it over, and look for a brand name and some kind of model number (Ex.: Linksys wrt54g, D-link DI-804). Once you have that go to this link and locate your model:

http://portforward.com/

Follow the instructions provided. The ports you need to open are:

7777 (TCP/UDP)
28900 (TCP)
27900 (UDP)
28910 (TCP)

Once you're done click each port to test if it's really forwarded. Bear in mind that sometimes it takes a minute for the router settings to apply.

The ending is bad, but then again if you play this for the storyline, it's sad.

Solo is a bit easy, the more people ingame the tougher it gets, gota coordinate attacks and call targets and whatnot.

Played solo and in a 2 man party, it's a blast so far.

Lol actually there's a rather easy fix people just realised.

Launch a SOLO game.
Invite friends.

You're done.

if all else fails, I had all ports forwarded too, and somehow it wouldn't let me, edge told me to try the folowing :

Get/Launch Utorrent
Option/Preference / set port to 7777
Apply
CLOSE THE APPLICATION

boot borderlands / host

Did that and I was hosting games in the minute

copying a player(for if you want to play with other ppl with your character but still have a copy left behind for your normal foursome)

go here:

C:\Documents and Settings\chem\My Documents\My Games\Borderlands\SaveData

copy the character you want
rename if you next available save number
open borderlands
go to the nearest naming post and rename. (dont rename in notepad, it tends to corrupt the file)
i then fire a few rounds just to make sure this character has an updated weapon cache

Some people tested some weapons over and over and found out why oranges sometime appear to be shittier than greens/blue/purple...

A weapon can have up to 5 stats, the game as it is now, only shows 4 lines, and those 4 are sometime used to the weapon description.

Example of what the stats of a weapon should be:

Annihilate 'em bandits
10% ignite
-20% recoil
40% crit damage
20%faster reload
Regenerate ammo

And what it is ingame now:

Annihilate 'em bandits
10% ignite
-20% recoil
40% crit damage

Amo regen and reload speed are two really good mod, yet you dont even know they are there.

to fix it, make the ingame font smaller (they really needed to be smaller anyway)

you dont need to "forward" ports if you're not using a router. forwarding ports mean you're opening ports on a router or similar device and pointing them to a specific LAN ip adress. if you are just using windows firewall all you need to do is open the ports needed. it sounds like you have already done that. some ppl are having issues even with the correct ports open, check the steam borderlands forum for some tips that have worked for ppl. hit me up on steam tonight if you still cant get it.

Not necessarily true.

If you have no router and you are wired in right to your cable modem, it just depends on if your cable modem is using NAT. Many cable modems do these days and if so your ISP will have to open the ports on the modem unless they let you have access to it, my isp does not. When I talked to my isp about this they suggested I get a router and they will disable the NAT on the modem and I can control the ports myself. Before borderlands I never had a need to do this so the 4 port cable modem had worked just fine.

{EE}chEmicalbuRn

2009-11-04 19:04:29

well, i see what you are saying but even then they are not really "forwarded" they are just opened. unless ofcourse your isp askes you which LAN ip adress you need them forwared to. not sure, ive never used one of those router/modem all in one things. these modems you speak of have different wired ports on them?

No, Huxley looked like it had alot of replay value, this isn't the case. Borderlands is for people that enjoy singleplayer games in general. Wich I'm a fan of. look, let me sum it up for the ppl on the fence. this game is nothing short of awesome. tons of quests, loot and new weapons around every corner. the game does a really good job of individualizing each class as far as their skill tree and weapon specialties. the skill tree and weapon upgrades make leveling up super addicting. i fell in love with the graphic art style from day one and never once felt like they should have done it different way. plus, you can do all this with friends. overall i would rate this game a 95/100. there is a reason ppl are hooked on this game and a reason ppl who have beat the game are playing it again. Con gifted me the game, but i bought it for the wife, and its the best game ive bought in years. the only 2 draw backs are the issues some ppl are having with hosting(which can be resolved quickly with a little research) and the fact that if you join a game where the host has done quests you havent you cant complete them. BUT if you host the game you can play with that friend and do the quests. in other words the game is host specific. i havent talked to anybody who thought this game was a let down. BI is a little upset with the game cause he cant host, but that is because he is in a situation where its almost impossible to do it, thats not really the games fault. they prolly could have done a better job with auto opening host ports like l4d did, but, even with that said, the SP is just as awesome.

My only big issues is when people edit their files, such as if i were to edit a weapon and give it parts it wasn't supposed to have then host, it will corrupt peoples game saves at random times. Another issue is that because everything is stored locally, there will be no PVP that is really worth anything. (So it loses PVP to the Diablo series by far.)

Ok, so I beat the game twice now. Once with a lvl 39 Roland and once with a lvl 28 Lilith. I can't see myself playing through the story again though. The missions are already repetitive and boring. And the game is so freaking easy once you realize you can just run past everything. Bosses are easy so there's really no incentive to level up.

Try playing in a party of 3-4 the game has coding that says, per player the game gets 100% harder, if wanted you can host and make it 6x stronger too.

I guess Im just not a fan of single player games period. Never really have been as the majority that I have played have just sucked. In fact, Half Life 2 is about the only one that I can recall that I can still say, shit I'd play that again for sure. I've played AI long enough, multiplayer is where it's at. Couldn't agree with impala more.

Yea I was hoping to play through it with some people, but by the time I got it installed, they had already finished it at least once. I really wanted to experience the coop and explore the game with other people, not following someone that already knew where everything was, what had to be done and when all the enemies were gona attack and "quick leveling" through the game just for the sake of leveling as fast as possible. So now I am playing the SP by myself which I am told isnt as good as the coop.

awwwwwww, you need to jump on the boat sooner next time, just think of all the haters Columbus left behind. and the SP is just as good game play wise as the coop. but you dont get the "l4d" experience.

Yea but I dont like to download games, I want to buy the disk. I ordered it through Amazon and it didnt ship on time for some reason, I think because they didnt get enough in stock to ship to everyone. I ended up cancelling the order a week after it came out and bought it from Best Buy, but by then some people were already at level 40 or whatever and its not fun playing as a level 10 with people that are level 40. Its like farting in the wind, your shots dont do shit.

why would you want a disk that can get scratched, lost, stepped on, eaten by the dog, when steam can store it for you? silly girl'

Have to agree 100% but the only valid reason I have heard from anyone is that they want the ability to sell the disk if they don't like the game or no longer want it.

We have discussed this before and its not silly at all. My disks never get scratched, lost, stepped on or eaten by the dog. I have never lost a music CD, movie DVD or game disk. I take care of them and when Im not using them they go back to their home on the shelf. I also dont lend them out to people because I have gotten burned that way with books I have lent out. I dont want to have to redownload 20 fucking games whenever I have to reinstall windows or a drive dies, or whatever. It takes 10 minutes to load a game disk where it takes hours to download a game from steam. I dont want to sell them really, I just dont want to have to redownload them all again and again. I can reinstall all the games I want in an afternoon whereas they will take a week to download. I want to play them, not watch a download bar. To each his own. Also if the governor of NY has his way, he is going to tax DLC so thats another reason to have a disk.

I moved all my contents over to my external hard drive. It took me twenty minutes to copy the 60 gigs over. I also didn't have anything to put in or take out. (That's what she said.) If you aren't going to sell them, do this.

Yup thats what I did a long time ago which is why I said only valid reason is if you want to sell your game.
