How do you know you cannot install the card? Did you try? Since there are no details I will throw in a couple pieces of information.

Power supply out put rating is highly subjective there are lots of PSUs in the low 250 - 350 watt range that ship with OEM machines that out perform 400 - 600 watt PSUs. Basically what I am saying is I would try it out first if you have not already done so. Make sure to connect the 6 pin connectors or molex connectors to the video card and then stress test it in some games. Also what system do you have? what are the specs brand and so on? Some OEM brands do not have standard ATX power connectors and this could really throw a wrench in your spokes.

If money is really that hard to come by you want to exhaust all your options before spending it on a mediocre PSU which may not do anything if your system is CPU limited any way. And probably will not be useful in a future computer build.

I agree, if you buy a shitty PSU you risk blowing up your mobo, the card you want to install is similar to the one I put in my old 2005 hp and that's running on a 300watt stock PSU alongside 2 dvd burners and a pci network card and pci soundcard and it has never shown problems.

I would give it a try if I were you (should be under warranty still right?) and if you don't feel your PSU will handle it then downgrade to a single disc drive if possible.

I currently have a stock 250w. On the box of the EVGA 7900GTO it says:

Minimum System Requirements:
-Available 16 channel PCi Express slot.
-Minimum 450w system power supply.
-Minimum 500w for SLI Mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 22 Amps)
-A PCi Express supplementary power connector
or two available hard disk drive power connectors
frim power supply that are connected to nothing
else in the system.
-CD-Rom Drive
-Windows2000/XP/XP 64/MCE 2005

BTW, on canada directs, theres a few deals like a really good power supply, a 750w for 50-60 bucks.
He's just saying try it once to see if it will work, theres still a chance it may.

before you buy and/or install a new vid there is more to take into account than just a PSU man. i may have a psu around that i could ship you. well, i know i have one, i have like 5 or 6, but i dont think any of them are bigger than 500.

Did you try the Video card with your current PSU?

Well buying a cheapo PSU is more likely to wreck something then trying the card. So I guess pick your poison.

Take care of IRL first. Then worry about computer/game shit. I'm a hypocrite for saying it, but there it is. fuck it.

Best of luck.

Yes, take care of your personal life first, that's most important!!

I would like to help but I'm currently 40K in debt due to starting a new business and things have been incredibly slow. If things keep going this way I may end up asking for donations!!
