I think Hl3 is just episodes 1,2,3 broken down so we dont have to wait 6-7 years like hl1 to hl2

Episodes 1, 2 and 3 were originally one game that was going to be HL2:Aftermath. Valve decided to split it up and bend HL fans over for teh lulz.

i surely hope there is not a new engine to come so soon can you imagine the poor fellows over on blackmesasource project if there were 1? You gotta Imagine with each new engine that valve has been popping out they update there entire game to utilize its better capabilities I'm still hopeful that the mod comes to fruition and is released sometime this year but I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah I agree if the surprise is a new engine, then lol the BMS guys are pretty much SOL unless they want to stay with the engine they are using.

Honestly though, as cool as a new engine is, I would think that this "surprise" would be a bit bigger than that, but we will find out next week.

I knew there would be a thread on this!

In my various internet browsing over the past week I have encountered various E3 leaks. Some more believable than others but then again, this is the internet.

Some guy 'claiming' to be a map developer for Valve revealed that the surprise was indeed gonna be HL3

He went on to establish that the campaign of episode 3 was gonna be merged into Half Life 3. Also went on to comment that the gravity gun, ar2, crossbow and one more weapon were gonna be returning(I dont remember the last one)

Confirmed that Valve has indeed worked on a Source 2 engine and Half Life 3 was going to be shown in some form or another on it. Also said that Portal 2 was gonna be running in Source 1.9.

No release date for HL3(lolValve) and unfortunately I didn't get a chance to ask about multiplayer.

On a sidenote after being away for so long I was blown away by the ninja update done to Portal and all the cryptic messages it offered.

iirc one or two of the messages were static that after some refining sounded like voices from the hl2 characters

Seems to be the truth and Valve still has a spot on the E3 floor so they'll be showing something at least. I dont believe it until it actually happens buuut I'll let you all decide

No, that was their main event which was mostly gonna be Portal 2 related. That was canceled. Their surprise is most likely gonna be during the actual expo days starting tomorrow at 9 am PST

My guess is that its gonna be in the last day.

By the way he sounded when he was speaking(Not thrilled at all) I'm hoping that theres still gonna be something revealed tomorrow during E3

As I let this info sink in I realized that this was one of the things I always hoped for. Being able to share the same game while I'm on my PC and another friend is on a console. Even if this is the surprise now I feel its actually a pretty awesome one.

I did a little more reading and stuff and it seems it is not Steam but Steamworks, you know all that cloud thing for saved games auto patches, controls settings etc.
