sorry, no 9.0 or greater. at least not on the west coast. arguably the strongest quake in U.S. history was right here in the Midwest, along the New Madrid Seismic Zone in 1811 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Madrid_Seismic_Zone). some say was over 8 in magnitude... but the richter scale hadn't been invented yet. it rang church bells in boston. new madrid is overdue.
