The website literally just came up. It's propagating across DNS servers right now, so it may take another hour or two before your region's DNS servers can access it.

Hey Valar, yes infinity was brought up for the 1v1 topic. We came to the conclusion that dm_ethic had a similar style of play (circular flow type area with underground) and we decided to go with that map.

btw... thought valiums will be admin there... not?
and another question: what about ppl that have a (old) vac ban, are they allowed to play?

MondaySunshine

The site will be updated soon with a new color scheme and stuff like that. This is just temporary.

People with old VAC bans cheated. Plain and simple. Unless there are some exigent circumstances showing why their VAC ban shouldn't prevent them from playing, they won't be considered.

I am not an admin. Because me and Holy respect eachother, the reasons for departure will be kept secret. I wish Holy the best of luck, with the 16 credits of UL classes at my university, I don't think I will be playing in a league ever again as I make my final stand to retain my 3.6 GPA.

I see right now, it's so easy to navigate and see everything.
Sometimes, with all the teams and leagues and such going on, simpler and straightforward is better.

I hope the new theme is a lot better then the current one. The current one looks like every other punch and judy league site and finding things is like jumping through hoops. If you wanna have players sign up, outside of this community, it really needs to be easy to navigate. To me, that has been the biggest problem with pretty much every league site I've ever seen. Having to sign up for the forum seperately just adds insult to injury. As of right now, efps is just another league site. I hope that efps will be "THE" league site when it's all said and done. To me, navigation and simplicity is key. Basically, something completely opposite of Cal.

Da1

2010-09-12 05:22:29

LOL. Cal was hard to navigate on? Seemed pretty logical to me.

And the thing about "every other league site" is that league sites are so complex there isn't going to be a "simple" league site.

Didn't know reading headers was so difficult. =\

It's not difficult for you or me or anyone that has "been there, done that" with leagues, but for those new to joining a league it is. I had to spend a lot of extra time getting guys signed up at cal, warzone, and dont even get me started with the HL2:CTF league site http://www.mygamingleague.com. A lot of it had to do with registrations not going through, properly being added to the team, and doing all sorts of other crap that they had a hard time figuring out (there is always something). Noobs, yes they are, but you still have to consider that if I had to walk through 8 of my guys to sign up to pretty much every league site, something needs adjusted. With all that said, the way Holy was talking the site up, I was expecting something more grand. As of now, it looks a lot like warzone. Perhaps my imagination got the best of me. None of this is a knock on you or anyone that worked on the site, it's more to do with league sites in general.

Paradox

2010-09-12 18:49:26

The site isnt all that hard to understand. CAL was a little bit more complicated and TWL is far more complicated. Ive had to help some of my team members sign up for both, it just goes with the territory.

One reason for seperate registrations is that it allows for 2 seperate databases: one for forums, one for the league. Not everyone that signs up for forums can or wants to sign up for the league (at least not right away). Each table requires different data and combining them both into one table can make the data base rather large with lots of empty spaces which causes the database very inefficient.

Have the user registered for both and then all he has to do to is to join a team with a password. If the team is participating therefore he is, if he isn't in any team he won't be placed in any roster.
'' Team '' can be created and locked by a single person for 1v1 games such as quake so he can then be placed in a roster.

basically you register for leagues+forums

you aren't placed anywhere until you join a team or create a 1v1 team with only you in it.

It still creates a database with a lot of blank spaces and Ive always been told that is a bad thing to do with database tables. Even though the spaces are empty they still take up storage space because the database has to assign them a value whether there is data in them or not and the database becomes a lot less efficient

no bio for 3v3 ?

Da1

2010-09-13 10:53:48

We wanted a wide range of maps, but in doing so we had to still limit each section to only 15 maps so everyone could know and practice the maps.

With that in mind we had to cut some of the smaller maps out of the 3v3 section, ie. lostarena, biohazard, resident.

So, no biohazard for 3v3 is correct. D:

Copied from the eFPS Steam Group. WHAT? You're not a part of the Steam Group? That's so square. You should fix that.

I want to thank everyone for being so patient while we got the site together. I have some really amazing news. In less than a week, the site will fully launch.

EverythingFPS will be the only all-inclusive gaming portal on the internet. Hosting skins, maps, leagues, and forums for the most popular FPS games on the market, eFPS will be the only site gamers will need to bookmark.

Over 13 GB of skins and maps will initially be housed on everythingFPS, but this will just be the start. Panels of skin and map experts will judge user submissions to determine whether or not submitted new content should be added to our archives.

With community-driven leagues, the emphasis is taken off a corporate league model and power is put back in the hands of the players themselves. Our first league may be the one dearest to our hearts - hl2dm sign-ups are already underway. And with ad revenue from the site fueling leauge prize pools, we happily anticipate launching leagues for CSS, L4D, TF2, L4D2, and BC2 in the near future.

But we wouldn't be here today without the help and support of many members of the FPS gaming community. I'd briefly like to thank Steven "DEFme", Francois "conflict", Sean "Bucky", and Will "Da11as" for making this dream a reality. As we start building steam, things are going to start happening fast and furiously, and we'll use both the site itself and this Steam Group to keep you all udpated.

Once again, thanks for your support and dedication to this project.

- Brian "holymoly" Fuller

We played with our own rules and our config in CU.

CU started an NA section because NA didnt have an official league any more. CU is still up and running. eFPS might not want to duplicate/compete with them. Just a thought.

Admins are here and talkin about it can be possible, what is your thought about?
Call it EURO section, CU has nothing to do with eFPS, why r u still talkin about CU?
I cannot understand you all are so emotional about that two letters. I am not a CU agent, but there is no other euro or asia hl2dm forum, where u can invite people to play, and i dont ask u to invite them anyway, so dont talk about cu, i dont wanna make a CU in eFPS, now it's clear: no cu in efps.

Euro section: it's mp_teamplay 1, homemap rebels. this is the difference. ye want it's real, coz i want another league to play in, not cu, and i know some people want the same, so they will be glad to play
i could make a site myself, but i dont have a time to rise it up, u have a nice ability with your good-looking webpage.

to invite more we need some proffer, if it's not money, we could pick up something else

its more that u are banned from cu for excessive flaming then its your choice to not play there ;)

the na-section of cu was able to create their own rules to play. cu was only the homepage to enter and arrange the wars.
speaking about efps i really hope that some euro teams will sign up for it. but i doubt its gonna work out for many teams. i think it will be only a few teams that want to play after midnight and with a ping above 100 when they can have it much easier with playing in cu. this is no offend, i really hope that efps will work and maybe i sign up for the 1v1 ladder :)
besides that i think you shouldnt make own rules for euro teams as there wont be enough to form an own division...

it's non of ya buzzinezz why i dont play there
banned? im not banned.

flaming? this guy lost my map to me and started tracking me everywhere like a homo, then he banned me in the league coz of 3 cards on me.. After all admins proved i didnt have any shit cards, he said i should apologize, who is he? makin me apologize coz of he has banned me for a "mistake"? and who r u? makin me excuse oneself right here. keep your mouth close about it if u dont know the thuth.

cu is simple:

admin power
u dont lick admin's ass? - ban
keep quiet to admin or guess what

so u just embarass the Euro hl2dm community callin yourselves UNITED, just a group of people thinkin they'r the best.

*****

efps, if u just dont wanna make "the homepage to enter and arrange the wars." tell me now pls

you see where im going with this now? would be nice if we returned the favor to our euro community friends. not laugh in their faces when they want to be a part of this project.

What I meant by that was, it sounded like he wanted us to make a "CU" division in eFPS, like have a cu.cfg and all that stuff. I believe holy, and myself would have no problem implementing a "European" division if enough teams were interested. It just sounded like he was trying to merge CU with eFPS in a way, and I was like LOL?

The fact is, there aren't enough teams interested.

I haven't been completely clear about what I'm thinking in this thread, so let me try to say what's in my head.

Launching a new league isn't easy. Convincing players that you're going to provide them with something worthwhile can be difficult, especially given the transient nature of most historical hl2dm leagues. Launching eFPS in North America was fairy easy, however. I don't think many North American teams felt "at home" at Clans-United and a lot of people wanted a different league. When Valiums came on board and disbanded the North American CU league, eFPS became the only real option for North American players. So getting North American players on board wasn't nearly as hard as it could have been.

The story completely changes when it comes to CU for European players, however. Clans-United has been around there for quite some time now. It's a league run by Europeans for Europeans. Their teams are used to the rules and used to how things work. It just works for them. And I respect Clans-United for providing exactly what Europeans need in a hl2dm league. Trying to take away teams from Clans-United would be incredibly difficult at this point. But more importantly - I think it would be wrong. It would be bad for the European community, bad for hl2dm relations between CU and eFPS, and just bad for everyone. Unless someone can convince me that Clans United isn't a good thing for European players and they need a new league, I just don't think its right to fracture the community between two competing options.

Let me know what you guys think.

i understand fully what you are saying Holy, all i was saying is that if some euro players wanted another league to participate in, under their rules, then eFPS should be willing to appease since they were nice enough to do so for NA players.

Would we have to start calling matches "wars"?

Good classy potshots that have no relevance to the what we're talking about at the end there.

I disbanded CU American league because I don't think there should be two leagues competing for the same base of players (besides the LUA crisis), it would divide the tiny community we have left. Likewise it would be innapropriate and in general disrespectful to take away players from European CU by creating a league that competes for the European base of players, the league they have has run in excess of four-five years now? Just let it be 8)

Just to resolve the issue fully, I think I speak for both myself and Da11as when I say that, unless we get a strong showing that CU isn't providing a good league to European players, out of mutual respect, we won't try to actively recruit European teams away from CU.
