I built some and updated a few others that were popular and the map author wasnt interested in updating it. The ones you think are sexy Im sure are mine though . As for unifying, J@nek was nice enough to help me out with a few things code related that our ctf coder hadnt dug deep into and I think him for that. J@nek is a very good sdk coder and seems like a real go getter in getting code updated. The CTF team would of benefited with someone like that over the years, but it is what it is. Im really amazed you've never played this mod though. It is one of, if not the oldest, legit hl2 mod. The first internal release was December 2 2004. That is pretty damn early. At the height of HL2:CTF the dev team played Valve in a ctf match where the dev team was winning pretty easily over Valve until Valve broke out the hacks (there is a vid of it on youtube). CTF made steam news and we were averaging around 500 players a day and over 50 servers.Beef wrote:Wow, I was just going to mention you guys try working together to unify the mods, but there might conflict of interests, time conflicts, and stuff. I'm seeing similar things that I've seen ag2. Do U.S. people play CTF? I'm not big on flags, but it might be worth checking out. Especially since "no one" in U.S. plays ag2. Sad face!
Sac, did you create all those sexy maps, or you updating, or...? Sorry, I know nothing about the hl2ctf world.

There are a ton of differences. Some of the main gameplay ones would have to be the "flag in hand" and team runes. Those maps you remember are much different now as well. Easier to navigate through and layouts changed for better gameplay. Plus there will be at least 6 new release maps. Another big addition are the new gamemodes, football, excessive, instagib, and capture point. But all this is the tip of the iceberg.Pernicious wrote:eh, wats going to be the diff between this and the one i remember ppl playing years ago, i even remember all those maps, and watching the valve vs mod devs game.

what panic said. Its not the same at all. Bhop is actually programmed into the code. It's easier to do and much faster speeds. At the same time, there is a larger learning curve in ctf because of the walljumping and explosion jumping. There are guys that use walljumping to gain momentum for bhop as well which has only been mastered by a few. There are also more weapons and runes (powerups) if the server so chooses to have them on.Va|iums wrote:So Impala was talking to me last night and got me interested....
Will the movement be EXACTLY how it is pre-update hl2dm? If the movement has the OB delay still I'm not even touching it. If the movement is the same I'd be looking for a team. CSS is cool and stuff and requires much thinking ect but sometimes I just wanna bunnyhop over a dudes face.

Well, there will be a few throwback maps in the release from TFC. 2fort and Epicenter. With the addition of the Attack vs defend (Dustbowl, Avanti), Push (Battlefield 2 Bad Company style) and capture point (Warpath), plus multiple flag capabilities, the gameplay that maps can bring is pretty endless. So expect to see a few more TFC maps. I have layouts of Rock2, Well, Avanti, and Warpath already, but they are the vmfs from the hl2dm versions and were ported straight from TFC. They are not proper in dimensions and the port over to source made the brushwork pretty crappy. I'd like to recreate these gems and make them HL2CTF's own style.Va|iums wrote:Wait wat. already asked, the answer is no. To many people issues with knowing they were holding the flag so now its in hand, though imho its to obtrusive to my view would be cool if they could animate it to closing up into a baton item if only from a first person view or having only a section of it in hand visible say a batons length and the rest transparentDEFme wrote:Hi everyone. Great times. I totally remember this too! Which was the night the developers
played the guys from Valve. Believe it was version 1.71 back in 2006 was when I last played, but originally started with 1.1.
Question for you though, Sacrifist. Why the holding the flag in-hand? What was wrong with the strapped on the back look?
Personally, it looks kinda goofy. That being said, will there be an option for the player to make the flag carrier look like how you guys had it originally?
I am actually kinda curious in checking out HL2:CTF again if there is still an interest in it.
Oh, one more thing. Remind me. Was ctf_export the subway map? Loved that one, ctf_pedestal, and the earlier versions ctf_defrost. Ahhh, memories.
