Massive Frame Drops

Is anyone getting massive frame drops when in an intense firefight, mostly with an explosion or shotgun burst? It only lasts for about 1 second, but is still majorly distracting.

somtimes i get purple and black checkers on explosions :S

Yeah I get the purple and black too, but i mean like just general FPS drops like down to less than 30?

So because you've just killed Rio (let's pretend he's walking at you with single barrel shotgun) you suddenly can't remember how to switch weapons.

Seems more like something wrong with you than Rio, by your description.

On a helpful note...

Da1, make sure your steam internet settings are at >10M, this was an issue I had for a while, game would randomly lag in full servers or intense firefights. Its steam capping your bandwidth usage, which is retarded, but just the way it works...

Also, older games don't like SLi and Crossfire, so if you are running dual cards (idk if you are) go into your driver and disable it for hl2.

Oh, also if you are running on a laptop (again, dunno if you are), most modern laptops have a power save mode that disables the dedicated graphics card and uses integrated graphics. My buddy has this problem all the time, he was getting 20fps on UT2004 and couldn't figure out why, lol.
