The Russian Newspaper Russia today reports that a member of a Russian gaming clan from the tastefully titled Coo-clocks clan murdered a rival member of the Platanium clan in the city of Ufa after virtual violence and arguments online spilled over into the real world.

The two groups had an online fight as it were in an unknown game (possibly Lineage II) at the end of December and this apparently lead to the groups arranging to meet up and have it out in real life. A 33 year old man only known as Albert from the Platanium clan was badly beaten and died of his injurys in the ambulance. The alleged assailant, a 22 year old man from the Coo-clocks clan apparently has shown no remorse, and refused to justify his actions. His fellow clan members in the Coo-clocks clan continue to harass the family of the murdered man, threatening to kill his sister, who hasnt turned on the computer for days.

She later said; I think they have confused the game and reality. And after we buried him [Albert] on 31 December, they continued to threaten us.

The Platanium clan was mostly made up of experienced gamers over 30 while the Coo-clocks clan are mainly students in their twenties.

Gives gamers a bad name and gives stupid politicians ammunition to use gaming as a scapegoat for the problems of society. :x

WOW items are almost a real life common value now, some items/char goes for like 1000 $ US, if some people are willing to punch a small ass store owner in the face for a mere 50,76$ i'd believe someguy would kill another dude for a 1337 epic mount hahaha

 :? Thats REALLY creepy! I'm nearly speechless....*shudder*

Heres a couple choice quotes.

"Hello I need 5000 world of gold for my epic flying mount. In return you can mount me." Hmmmm....no words

"would prefer someone who was into roleplaying (I have a costume!)" Uh-Oh trying to emulate the game in RL

"I would also be ok with a woman too, as long as you have the gold! Also not adverse to the idea of groups\anal." :? Creepy factor has risen to an all time high...I mean WTF!!

Next time some one pisses me off in RL I'm just gonna bhop right up into their face and rabbit punch them until they scream, "PWNED!" I tell you what!

This used to happen from time to time in Diablo 2 as well... its not as uncommon as some might think.

Heh thats awesome, someone who played Diablo 2. I had totally forgotten about that game! I used to play that game WAY too much. Ther was actually a HUGE market for items being sold in RL for that game at one point. When I stopped playing I actually sold my account for $50. It wasn't until a week later or something that I figured out it was worth alot more lol. One would be surprised how wrapped up in some games people can get.
