I am currently making a vid (specifically a HL2DM trailer) and have followed holymoly's guide and settings exactly. The .dems record fine, when I watch back and extract into multiple tga's, they play back fine in VirtualDub.

BUT when I create an .avi from VirtualDub, the resulting vid just freezes on maybe 3 frames in a 2min piece of film and for around 10-20secs each.

I have used the HuffyUV compression and all virtualdub settings as Holy suggests.

struggling to know how to deal with it :/

any help is appreciated, thanks

Yeah don't worry that's perfectly normal. Pure uncompressed avis don't play well... you just need to have a lot like that one, mix them on sony vegas / adobe premiere, render a new gigantic avi which will play slowly like the short avis you have, and the keep following the guide, compress, and it will play smooth ^^

Also one other niggly problem I was actually gon edit and add to my original post but you were too quick for me ( :P ) is,

I set my HL to open -windowed for my recording, but now I want to play n do sum more .deming full screen, but my hl continues to open -windowed despite me removing the setting from applications run properties. ne way to force full screen?

Removing the windowed switch and then going to video options in game and changing it there should set it back to full...or maybe there is fullscreen switch?? Not sure, I haven't looked in that.

I guess you don't need it anymore but I'll post it anyway

Code: Select all

 -fullscreen
Use that if u can't fix it next time D:
