Alright some of these might be down right laughable

Can you only watch demos from the perspective of the person recording the demo?

How do I activate the demo hud while im watching a demo?

When I am recording a demo, when the map changes does the demo stop recording, or does it continue into the next map?

1. If its a self recorded demo, yes you can only watch from the perspective of the person recording.
Source TV demos, you can watch any player in first or third person or from specific camera angles.

2. Hmm dont know if you can never tried

3. No it keeps recording you need to type stop or stopdemo in the console when its done. The self recording is done from your own computer it will keep recording regardless of the server changing the map. The two are independant.

If you press SHIFT+F2 you'll open the demoui tool, by pressing the "Drive" button you can hold either your left or right mouse button (can't remember which) and use the WASD keys to maneuver the camera angle, although it is still subject to show your in game movement.

Pretty sure SHIFT+F2 is for that, unless you want to make the arms, weapon, gloves etc, disappear, then you have to type "cl_drawviewmodel 0" into the console.

No it doesn't say you name your starting demo "epoch1v1" then every map change it will add a gradual number to seperate them ie "epoch1v1_2" "epoch1v1_3" although if you're like me you'll forget to start recording again after the game crashes and you jump right back in, gets me every time.

Even the free games (warsow, nexuiz andmore) these days have an option to record demos automatically and also take a screenshot at end of every match.

sweet thanks dudes I appreciate the replies. in light of this new information I think I'll add a slot and source TV to my servers. I REALLY want to be able to watch my 1v1 and 2v2 demos from other players perspectives, it would be so much more informative. Does recording demos through the source tv effect server performance in game in any way?

It doesn't necessarily have to affect it, but it can be possible...so it's better to have the source tv in another PC, as a different client

Like he said.

Seriously anyone knows how bad it affects performance? I never tended to use source TV to record or even think of getting it on a server if i ever had one because I was worried about it.

As long as the stv isn't on the same box as the server it should be just like a person in spec recording.
