demo's fluency

Anyone knows how to make a demo look fluent?
Cuz my demos look jerky, but I've seen other people that have really smooth ones.
Here you have too examples.

Short demo of me bhopping, to show you how jerky it looks.

Demo of scar bhopping on LV. Ignore the little lag at the beggining, apart from that it's freaking fluent.

I believe it might have to do with server and client settings, but whenever I touch server or client stuff, I get it worse instead of better.
Any idea? What settings do you use on a listening server?

I have this problem as well the recording makes my bhop look crap when if fact it is good. I put this down to my pc not being that powerful. But if that not the case i would like to know how to fix it because i want to make frag video but when ever i see my demos it so jumpy. No point recording a good frag when it the playback it will look crap.

My pc is high end. I play hl2dm with everything maxed @ 1650x1050. So I doubt it's my pc.
Thanks for the response SND. Anyone else has an idea?

did you ever figure this out onty?

i've just started making demo's to help myself improve, i hope. i wouldn't say my demo's are jerky, but like you said... they are not at all smooth like others i've seen.

are there some basic configs that are good for demo-ing? i won't be making a frag vid from the demo's, so i'm not sure about all those settings holy discusses.

Well...I tried and have my "theories" but it's "relative" if that's the word.... You can try them though and let me know
Rates should be high (not default 30 20), better if server works correctly. Low ping, fps_max set to 0, and also avoid recording with 30 fps >.<, try playing with more fps.
I also read in a forum that the HDD speed is also important, so the HDD can "write" the info faster, but I haven't tried with any other HDD and I don't remember the rpm of mine ;P, so couldn't test that.
That's so far what I "suppose" that helps... let me know if you notice any difference.

my game sometimes "stutters" while recording demos because my HD is having trouble keeping up with the information being written to it... that's the only way I can see HD speed affecting demo writing.

otherwise I'd say adjust your rates to the optimum for the particular server you're recording on and maybe also turn your settings down a little bit while recording?

I'm getting way to tired of crappy demos, I will be seeing a friend soon who has a 7200 rpm HD (average HD, most likely what everyone has) and a 10000 rpm one. He has hl2dm and I will test them both when I see him.

Isoemtimes get jerky demos too, I dont thinkits anything to do with your PC but your connection maybe something to do with rate?

Hmm I have 4 gb of ram and I have my pagefile turned off, i'll create a RAM Disk later and test this out to see if it works. My guess is it's probably not the hard drives.

This topic died.... any one ever found out how to get around it?

I get bumpy demos when I record myself, but I get smooth demos when I'm spectating other people.

no, i nvr have figured this out. mine are so bad, i rarely record anything. i watched one from tonight... good lord it was horrible. stutters, and launching things from my gg looks like playing with 250 ping. hell, you can see the smg nade come out like slowmo... but its real time. lmao!

for my part... i'm blaming my connection speed (on good nights i get 1500's down and right at 400 up). i have tried the other suggestions and have a 7200 hd.

(sorry badinfluence. I did it again.)

I have a rather good pc, with a 7200rpm 8mb cache HDD, and 2 Gbs RAM 900mhz 44410 (latencies) and a 2900xt ATI, my connection is the only thing that phails a lot, it's good but I receive a poor signal cuz it's still not set up correctly.
Also, I play the game at minimum settings, except shadows, textures and 1024x768 res.

May be the connection then...

Also I'm around here for less time than everyone else. I'm still catching up, and getting many discussions left to die.

You could find all the posts that you have questions to and create an epic thread of questions!

That's not much viable (?right word?) for only 2 reasons.

I prefer to ask no more than 2 or 3 questions per topic's 1st post. Cuz when you do it, usually you get 1 or 2 answered and as the answers grow in number the rest of them go strait into oblivion.

And sometimes I just browse around the forum while I'm doing nothing at work. I sometimes don't have much time and concentration to spend on such an elaborate approach.
