OK, what is everyone using for editing. I got Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 for $100 thinking it would do the job. Initial tests looked good, but when I tried to render my full video, it came out all messed up.

I can compress it right put of Premiere using windows media encoder, but I really wanted to get a decent uncompressed video and do the final render in vdub.

Gah...all that editing for nothing.

So far I have heard of people using:

Adobe Premiere Pro
Adobe Premiere Elements
Sony Vegas
Windows Movie Maker

Solely for editing: Pro 2.0 ftW!
Elements... Looks fucking hard to get something decent out of that... It's mainly for gfx.

Well I made a 2 minute test clip and it worked fine, so I thought I was good to go.
I dont know what the threshold is, but at some point when the file size gets too big it craps out.

I don't currently have pro.

Well if I have some time to look for it this week I'll upload it.

ae is great for editing big uncompressed avi's or image sequences by using low res proxies.. very quick scrubs. ae is just so-so for basic stuff. for instance, no drag n drop stock transitions, but you can make presets. and of course its the gold standard for motion gfx.
for me the big drawback is the steep curve. fortunately, plenty of tutorials out there.
imo best would probably be to do the basics in premiere and then import the unrendered project file into ae to finish. and from there uncompressed into autodesk's "the cleaner". hokey name, great product.. for divx anyway
