CAL Popular choice maps 1v1

Fearsome*

You can vote for up to 4 maps for the popular choice maps, you should vote for the top maps you cannot live without. The top maps will be used to fill popular choice slots for this division.

Nobody nominated it.

Edit- It was nominated for 4v4.

It was nominated.

Note that no one bothered to nominate original lockdown, either. Unfortunate, as it would be interesting to see which version is actually more popular.

Edit- I nominated it. :| Thanks Bucky.

I like the current 1v1 list (imagine that) with the exception of dm_avalon_b1 and dm_lockdown_r3.
Replace dm_avalon_b1 with dm_feudal (mapper is willing to revise feudal as needed).
Replace dm_lockdown_r3 with a fixed version of original dm_lockdown.
I guess that you saying replace dm_lockdown_r3 with a fixed version of dm_lockdown wasn't enough to nominate dm_lockdown?

Actually i just went over the map nominations threads, and realized that a good half the maps nominated arent on the voting list.

Time for an _r1 on the voting polls!

I believe we were only pulling from the nomination thread I created. The thread paradox made was more of a way to gather feedback, Fearsome correct me if I'm wrong.

We should be pulling from both, as many players may not have known which (if either) was official.

I pulled Ko-Toa's quote about wanting a fixed version of dm_lockdown versus r3/r4 from the zman thread so either way I would have thought it should be included.

?
What do you want from me,
I made an official nominations thread, then as per fearsomes request pulled all the nominated maps from that thread and compiled them into a list.
?
I don't see how number of views says anything...if people choose to ignore map nominations or just blindly assume theyve already nominated then i think people are setting themselves up to be dissapointed when their vote is not heard. If you care enough to want to nominate your map of choice why not check the new threads that come up in the league section pertaining to map choice?

Not true, the plan was to formulate a vote from the thread I started which was in the League Board right below the one you started. I guess it just got preempted.

the thread with 1000 views and 4 times more posts ended up above yours. Since they both had the same discussion. People used the one on top.

I dont know why there is even a thread for this. The same maps that are played every time are the top choices as usual. The one Im amazed at is Lockdown. Why would anyone want to play lockdown 1 v 1? Its a bit large for 1 v 1 imo. I guess this is the democratic way to do it though lol. Leaves little reason to bitch about it once the map list is out.

How hard would it be simply to revise the poll to include all nominations and suggestions from both threads? Seriously, every single subject or discussion in relating to cal does not need to become a great screwed up mess as seems to be happening as of late... less pointless squabbling and more actual problem solving would go a long way.

once fearsome realizes r4 isn't going to win he'll make another poll. don't worry.

Thread 1
It clearly says that this thread is for voting, it clearly says you are to assume no map is set in stone.
If you do not vote for lockdown it may not be in cal is even clearly in a post below.
Alrighty, this is it. Please stand up and nominate your favorite maps for the upcoming CAL season. Please be sure to list what division you'd like to see the map in, and I'd like to say don't assume that the "standbys" will be in. If you wanna see lockdown in cal vote for it. Maps can be from other games if intelectual property rights are not an issue. for instance Lostvillage for example was done by the original author, and is fine. lostvillage_v2 was done by Biotau without permission and is NOT fine. Well have at it you lot. :!: These maps will be used to create a vote for the most popular maps to fill certain spots in cals season.
Thread 2
Where does it say that these maps will be voted on? It clearly says it is for feedback.
Please post and list maps you think would be good or you would like to see for CAL. You can list ones that are already in CAL if you like those. Please categorize them according to division: ie

1v1 Lostarena, biohazard, Aim arena
2v2 ......
4v4 ......

or
2v/4v if you think a map can be multidivision

Just looking for feedback here, no promises that a nominated map will become a CAL map.

Thanks!
Its over next time read more carefully, or read at all?

Fearsome, at the time I made the thread we were still debating the details of it behind the scenes so I did not want to state explicitly that it was going to end up in a vote, but that was the intent. I did compile a list of the maps mentioned in my thread and posted them in the CAL Admin section for review of the CAL admins where I stated:
Fearsome, you had mentioned at that you wanted to do some kind of vote for maps in CAL. Well I started a nomination thread in the League forums to get feedback on possible maps. Lets see what they come up with.
If you go back and look at that admin thread, I did post a draft list of maps "for a poll" for 2v2 and 4v4. As I recall, not everyone responded to it so it didnt get to the next step. Then Zman started his thread. People obviously thought that the first thread was valid, and IMO, the second one should never have been started in the first place since most if not all the maps listed there were in the first thread.

In fact I questioned the need for a second thread but I see my post was conveniently deleted but the quote some one made of it was not:
Paradox wrote:
LOL why another thread....

Any maps with obvious glitches wont be included.

Democracy has 2 glitches. A mag that will not respawn and a sticky spawn point so unless we can get it fixed it wont be in the vote.

Paradox

The thing, the people on this board thought that the thread entitled MAPS IN CAL? was a nomination thread. After all it does say "MAPS IN CAL" and it was posted by an admin. It is implied that it is going to be used to pick maps for CAL. Also the "No promises that a nominated map will become a CAL map" also implies that the thread is seeking nominations for CAL. It was so that if someone posted an obviously flawed map, it gave us a means to not accept it for a poll.

The main thing that bothers me is that people took the effort to post in the first thread, it has 4x the response than the second thread, and their input is going to be ignored. I am at the point where I am reluctant to put any effort into anything. There is no communication and when we attempt to start a discussion, it gets ignored so here we sit spinning our wheels and nothing gets done.

So this serisouly isnt going to be changed because an "official" post which wasn't even marked "official" and half of the people didnt even know that Z was a CAL admin???

Basically meaning, oh hey lets do this discreatly so we get the maps we want in CAL.

Im just amazed that this is a big deal. Why does it matter if it was nominated in a specific thread or not? How about listing any map that is mentioned in this thread or any other thread related to CAL maps? This isnt some government organization that has to stick by the rules. Its a game for christ sakes. There is no reason that Lost Village shouldnt be on the list since its been brought up as missing. How about setting the voting toware you can change your picks and add all the maps that have been brought up. Does a specific thread really matter here?

Because we would have 10000000 maps most of which would have 0 votes.

If you really want to revote we can it will just delay the season by 2 weeks maybe more depending on how many maps are nominated. And of course we will need to make a vote on that.

Paradox

2008-11-15 18:24:24

Fearsome, we DO NOT have to renominate maps, just redo the current poll to include the maps from the other thread so that the input that people have taken the time and consideration to put in gets included. It wont delay the season 2 weeks, it will be one week at most. It will allow for more teams to join the open divisions and those teams with only one or two people (there are a lot of these) to get their roster filled so in that respect will wont be a bad thing.

Paradox
