CAL - Pick the Matches of the Week

Walking Target

2007-07-27 21:36:11

Pick what you think will be the most interesting match for each division. If you don't see any that look interesting, just say "none". Optional: say why you think it will be a good matchup / match of interest.

Remember to include the schedule date you are referring to.

After scores come in you may edit them in, or even post a demo if you can track down players willing to share.

My picks for Tues July 24th:

1v1 - Foz vs. Sadistical

2v2 - 911 vs. GGG
(911 win 2 -1, taking the win in village twice. GGG win their round in lock).

4v4 - DGC vs. TMx (assuming they are not afk)

CTF - LBC vs. AWESOME (LBC win by holding the first round in 2fort at 0 each and then winning warpath by one capture).

1v1 = blowout.

2v2 = agree

4v4 = i doubt either team will show up

CTF = don't know

Actually we (LBC) didnt pull off a full capture on warpath, though both teams were in danger of getting overrun a couple of times during the round. We just managed to hold area 3 long enough to gain 10 points, then barely prevented them from also holding area 3 long enough to gain 10 points as well and tie the match.

The 2fort round never came close to a cap- our flag didnt get touched, and none of us managed to get their flag more than a few steps up the ramp the 2-3 times we were able to snatch it.

They also outkilled us by a fair margin overall, which thankfully doesnt count toward scores. :)

Oh ok, I dont play warpath enough to know that area three hold is worth 10.

Week 3:

1v1 - Foz vs. Master

2v2 - 911 vs. beta
Depending on who plays from each team, this could go either way.

4v4 - HE vs. $W
Tough match for the HE boys, but would be interesting to spec I think.

CTF - VS vs. LBC

GLHF!

LBC won first round of 2fort, VS map choice 50-0. Then we finished early on warpath (LBC choice) 120-0. 2 rounds to 0.

We lost first 2 rounds, avalon, then zeta. Zeta was a horrible match. I seriously hate how unbalanced that map is. Avalon, dallas and blas just camped rocket, same thing val and blas did on zeta. One day there will be maps that require actual playing in CAL. Not the typical ok hold rocket stand here and wait which seems to be what league play is about.

its like this if we didn't do it first you would have camped the rpg and you know thats the truth, we have practiced in clan 2v2 pretty much everyday for over a week on many diff cal maps including avalon and zeta its not impossible to take back control of the rpg  all you gotta do is look at your demo from that match we took both of you out in the rpg room on avalon more than two occasion guess you guys didn't practice enough :|

btw gg

I agree that they are unbalanced to an extent, but as long as both teams have equal chance of getting control and holding it, I wouldn't say it is unfairly unbalanced. There are ways of taking control back, and it takes solid strategy to maintain it vs. a well organized assault.

I do not enjoy spawning in the canal vs. a strong team, but I also accept that spawns in competitive play sometimes go for you and sometimes go against you.

I personally enjoy the challenge and would hate to see them removed, but map preference is obviously a subjective thing.

EDIT: Those aren't bad scores given the maps IMO.

you guys did good, i totally agree about the rocket whoring tho.... if the CS cal can take out the shield and no one bitches....

The rocket room on avalon is extremely vulnerable to orbs and is generally fairly easy to clear out, if not hold. The inner part of zeta is vulnerable to orbs as well, and quick snipes. The ar2 and rpg are also both reasonably easy to steal if the inner team doesnt control them well, and the charger is workable from inside or out.

Neither map is unbalanced to anywhere near the degree that they need to be removed from the league, and besides, the perfectly balanced map doesnt exist. I havent seen a map yet in cal that doesnt get criticism from someone at some time.

Taking the rocket out of cal wouldnt make the play any better or more skill intensive. Most maps have only a single rpg compared to multiple of everything else- some dont have one at all- and all of those maps have ways to combat or take back the rpg.

Anyway, those scores were nothing to get worked up over... they were fairly close, but in the end, someones gotta lose.

Cmon guys, help me out here.

Week 3

1v1 Punk vs. Master
2v2 Fusion vs. LSD
4v4 Hells Elite vs. Axon

Week 4

1v1Deacon Doom vs. bahlk
2v2 GGG vs. $W
4v4 Fluid Mechanics vs. Vex

badinfluence

HE won.

Fusion defeated LSD 2:1. We each managed to lose on our home map, too. Drift ended up being the best match imo, that map plays surprisingly well in 2v2.

Week 4 Predictions:

1v1Deacon Doom vs. bahlk : Deacon Doom wins 2:1. Cant say much more as im not sure of each players best map, but DD plays alot of aim arena so likely has the advantage there.

2v2 GGG vs. $W : $W wins 2:0. Potentially close round on GGGs map if they choose something unusual, with a steamroll for $W on lockdown.

4v4 Fluid Mechanics vs. Vex : Looks too even to call, but ill bet it goes to 3 rounds.

CAL picks of the week 5, for the following matches...

1v1-- Tuna Can Vs Infusion // I'll go with Tuna Can as his experience should trump infusions newer talent.

2v2-- 911 vs $W Black // I take myself out of this prediction but the match can easily be determined by whom plays for each side. If each side has their top players playing, can be a close one.

4v4-- VDuS vs TFM // Could be a close match unless VDuS puts in their top lineup in which case VDuS will win.

CTF-- aXon vs LBC // Depending on if these guys even play, I'd go with LBC due to aXon's current roster issues.

No, GGG is not good on ld. 2467 is good on ld for 1v1 but that's all. TY!

We got steamrolled by $W black last night. Fantom came back and hadn't played for three weeks. NOT to say that we would have won if Fantom had not been out of the loop, but it certainly would have been closer.

Prediction: GGG doesn't care anyway.
