OGL-league

This is a league that we could get started ASAP

We simply need to put together a team of admins.
It would be similar to the early days of STA in it was a Ladder format but it would be strictly challenge based. Which would mean the teams just joining the ladder get to choose who they and getting a match against. Something that has killed the game for some time when the top teams plays a team that doesn't know that shift is the run button.

I have several people that want to help.

Good find sir. We should contact them and see if we can get a ladder going. Just use the admins from 2v2 cup?

Since this is going to be pretty much 2v2 only and you have plenty of willing helpers, I am also going to opt out of this for the time being.
I do think Edge would make a good admin, so I nominate him in my place.

For the reasons that were stated, I think a ladder scheme I a bad idea. Something more what we are used to would be much better IMO.

They are ready for the league, If anyone wants to make it happen pm me and I will give you the admins e-mail.

A ladder format would be great for hl2dm. Teams wouldn't play the top teams until they make it to the top of the ladder and top team couldn't challenge brand new teams.

well esl had a ladder idea and that failed but that was mainly down to how the point where given out. So it depends on how its is structured you got to be careful that you give teams at the bottom a opportunity to progress up.

Err.. if how can this be true if its a ladder with a challenge based format? How do you prevent a top team from just challenging the noob teams and racking up points so they make it higher up the ladder and set themselves up for an easy playoff seed?

There is no playoff and you can't challenge teams under your rank, so if you are number two the only team you can challenge is number 1. If you are team 20 you can only challenge up teams 10-19

Ok well since the Warzone is having the same trouble as CAL had regarding matches getting played (not the fault of its management and this is not a slam on that by any means), some of us have decided that maybe a ladder is the better option for Hl2DM after all. So we would like to give it a try. However we will be building our own league rather than go with some one elses system.

We think a system that rewards teams for playing would be the best option, that way the teams that play advance and the ones that dont, dont advance.

I would like your advice on this since you have some experience with it.

Info and developing details can be found: http://hl2dmcentral.com/DMCentralforums ... board=12.0

Although, I do have willing help in Synergy, I would prefer the administration of this to be represented by multiple clans. Right now I need 2 people willing to admin a 1v1 and a 2v2 division (3v3 will be added later) and I would like to have an advisory board to discuss the development and ongoing managment of this league. I would also prefer that people for these positions have some league experience.

There is also some discussion of some sort of small ($5 or $10) entry fee per player or team paid to a paypal account with all of the proceeds going into a cash prize distributed equally to members of the winning team via paypal or to the team member(s) that paid for the team as a whole if thats how it went. If people are generally willing to do this, we can set that up rather easily.

so hows this coming along?

ninojman

2009-10-06 03:11:19

I am sure no one has touched it.

But I am also sure that if someone wanted to be head admin they would just need to write up rules and find 1-2 other admins to help and OGL would setup a ladder as soon as they confirm all of this.

Paradox

2009-10-06 03:38:19

really?

http://hl2dmcentral.com/DMCentralforums/index.php#1

I guess I figured people would read the post above and see the site.

Started setting up a new ladder (non OGL) because I figured it would be best to have this run by the HL2DM community and not be subject to rules set by people that have set things up for other games and do not understand our game.

Draft rules are up http://hl2dmcentral.com/dmcrules.htm
Sign ups are up
Didnt get into maps because:

No potential admins have come forward with the exception of Panic for killbox
Not many people have come forward to participate in a community advisory board for the league. Those that have really havent done much.
Only a few people have registered

Right now its pretty much forum based with plans for a more sophisticated web site if there is interest. So far there hasnt been much interest so I havent invested much time in it because its too big of a job for one person.

I emailed one of the head admins a few months ago. He answered and forwarded me on to the HL2 admin who never bothered to respond. Then I quti playing HL2DM so I didn't bother trying anymore.

Start your own thread then.

OGL is pretty laid back, like sta. Each game is it's own world pretty much.

Yeah, I was going to, but I became disinterested in playing anymore competitive gaming, and I don't have as much time as I did a while back, so I didn't bother.

Paradox

In all honesty, the community should decide and say what they want to do.

Ladder or traditional type league

OGL or not

Then we go with just one of those instead of having dueling leagues.

To be honest, I think this ^^ reflects the current opinion of the community. I think most people have lost interest in having a league for HL2DM. Most people have moved on to L4D, COD, CSS, QL, TF2 and/or they are too busy with RL (school, job, family) to commit to what being in a league takes. Look at what happened with Warzone, it never even reached the playoffs, hell after what, the 4th or 5th week, no one even played their matches anymore.

I really dont think there are enough active people/clans left for a stock league. In general, competative online gaming is declining in North America and for HL2DM it is dead. Feel free to prove me wrong (please do), but I think the writing is on the wall.

ninojman

2009-10-06 17:03:18

para is always so positive.

That is why I suggested a ladder, since you don't have to play every single week.

Also why did you make your owns forums? Use the Draft (Now event) Forums here at hl2dmU

No one has been a bigger cheerleader for this game than I have and few have done more to keep it going.

When people stop playing the game as stock and most servers are coop and rp or low grav, there is no point in denying it.

I agree with you on the ladder idea which is why we (Edge, Nihilus and myself) discussed and I designed for that originally. What we don't know is if the commmunity would go for a ladder scheme

I did my own site because I do not have access to the things I need here to run an effective league and, if there was enough interest, I planned on building and improving the site along the way which I also cant do here. In addition, I felt it was best to make it separate from the U.
