As many of you know, DoDS has been already ported to OBE but as a Beta.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/s0iz/stats/DoDSBeta (EDIT: currently down, reason: unknown ¬¬)

Yeah, I don't like DoDS (/me is old DoD 1.x player) but I must admit that they did a great job with this Source2007 thing.

Score is the same as TF2. You have Achievements and physics/textures/effects updates.

Plus, that zoom camera when you got kill is awesome (can't wait to see it in HL2DM/CSS).

Post any news in continuation! :D

Your player name also works in the same way as TF2, so if they do the same with DM as they have with DoD then we should see a lot less unnamed's

I'm looking forward to it.

do you mean when someone frags me then it zooms in onto their location? because if hl2dm got that it would be super cool!

That would be cool, but also a damper in competitive play (yeah, it'd be disabled in such play, but until I can go 12 hours without farting.......such things are irrelevant in my book).

Regardless, I just hope I see DM on the OB engine before I find my next gaming addiction (or grad school....)!

I would love to see heatmaps for LD, LV, Caverns, etc....

If you aren't familiar with heatmaps, they show where the hottest activity is in the map. Here's an example from ctf_well in TF2

It's refered as the Killcam ;)

I dunno if I'd like all the achievements, killcam and stuff in hl2dm... it's like ... not the kind of game I'd add all that. I guess I'll have to try it to be more sure...

I am in total agreement. That kind of stuff is fine for a slower paced game like TF2 but not for HL2DM.

I hate DoDs because of this zooming, if hl2dm has it that would be end of this game

There are cvars to remove it in tf2 so I would assume it could be removed in dm if they were to add it. I doubt hl2dm will ever make it to the OB. If you look at the dm code, it's a real mess. Hell, there isnt even code for team collisions lol. They would have to recode so much that Im betting they will figure it not to be worth the hassle. I for one would love to see it updated, but dont count on it...

yea this was on my chrismas wish list but im not guessing it will not be come true.

I won't mind having the stuff from tf2 like achievements and stuff as long as it get people playing the game im all for it. But core it is fixing the bugs ohh please fix I have lost count the number of times i have died from a barrel just by walking past it or jumping over it. you will know what i mean when you see it the the frag movie if or when i ever finish it.

No, I cant code. I am however a part of the HL2:CTF mod team, so I hear about the issues with HL2DM's code.

Dude please tell them to use the latest SDK version.

There is way to much already done to the code to port it over and redoing the whole thing from scratch will take a very long time to do and our coder, who is working for free, isnt about to take on that task. As much as I would like it to be on the latest sdk, it's not going to happen. Even our old coder wasnt about to attempt porting the 1.7 code to a newer sdk. It was quicker to start from scratch, which took him over 6 months to get 1.8 toware it was when he left. We have taken a lot of steps to get this version up to snuff so you arent going to notice to many downfalls from it still being on the older sdk.

I already told Wilson every point that I didn't like about it. Hitboxes are too big. Game is too slow. You can't mess with FOV. Walljump takes away sprint which disables sweet combo'd walljumps. I know we want more people to find the game easier, but I don't like it.

The hitboxes were bugged, they are fixed now. FOV is also locked in dm and Im sure it is for more reasons then 1. Our main issue is that it screws up the weapon models/muzzleflash. Walljump will continue to take away aux, but there will be something added so players can still walljump all they want. So 2 out of your 3 complaints are all better :P

good xhair + fov 110 ~ 120 + r_drawviewmodel 0 = hax.

Im well aware that it was used that way in those games. Still doesnt change my mind that it looks retarded. Why would the creators of a mod remove their weapon view models? The whole point is to make the mod look as good as possible, not make it look ridiculous lol.

ziggo0

2009-01-29 23:33:59

Meh, it may look retarded to some, others feel that 90 fov is to squished together. The devs dont need to remove weapon models, just make the command r_drawviewmodel 0 not a cheat (which is retarded).

Yes but HLDM/AG had different crosshairs for every weapon.

I never noticed any problems with 1.71 muzzle flashes, only wapon models problem I ccould ever see was when spectating someone with Fov 120 and then its proabbly soemthing to do with
viewmodel_fov not being locked when spectatign for some reason.
