NEW MAP - dm_is_alive

Hi all,


This is Shoobie's and my second collaboration. Shoobie keeps on coming up with inhuman layouts so...what can i do...i'm a slave to his will by now :mrgreen: .

K, this map is a 1v1 / 2v2. heavily tested and debugged for over 2 weeks. it's RC2 atm and we're basically looking for a good name for it.
One thing i should mention about this map is it features many hl2dm clans logos. looking at the layout Shoobie's sent me i saw the supercharger area is kind of a large opened area with clean walls i couldn't stop imagining putting the diff clans logos on those bare walls. so...it's a shout out to this great game and its peoples. :thumbsup:

Map plays very fast and quite sweet. We're playtesting it on my NJ server so come on in and have a look...and again - name suggestions would be very cool.

dm_wall_of_fame or dm_mudafuga_jr cause it looks like the same map with those textures. Your last 4 or 5 maps seem to have very similar textures, which is fine if it is themed for it, like lost hope or milieu. These last couple I think would of looked much better with a more concrete look or a different texture look. Sometimes less is more. Nothing against your mapping though Val, I just like maps that give you a sense of a surrounding environment and your last couple hasnt given me that and I think alot of it has to do with the textures you are using.

Eh there already is a dm_tribute.

How about dm_clansofdm or dm_dmclans or just dm_clans

I dont think dm_booya does the purpose of the map justice.

It's RC1 atm and will remain so for a few days just to make sure no showstoppers crop up.

Thanks so much to Shoobie and the rest of the zombies who tested, advised, sent clan logos, whined, bitched and who generally took part in one way or another. this map was lots of fun to make.

some strangeness with the exploding propane canisters, they show up white, like they're missing textures, until I grab them with the ggun, then they're stock red. wierd

didn't you have the same issue in losthope where the big crates showed up white to you as well?

EDIT: i'm compiling a RC2. i think i've found a fix for that. check back in in a bit and see how that works.
also, RC2 now has all the clans/teams logo and updated the U logo.

That is an ep2 canister, I believe, and there really isnt anything you can do to fix it. It's on Val's end because its a custom model that he embeds into the map. Im guessing the vmt file has something in it that is causing the issue. Could be wrong though. Post the fix once you get it fixed Val.

unless i'm presented with any new bugs / major issues i will be releasing dm_is_alive this weekend. = e.g. the barrels issue as far as i know is fixed now so let me know otherwise.
I will not ask again through steam PMs or update the map once it's been released.
This is also last call for clan logos. i will not be adding anything once released. people should act now if this is important enough to them.

i got 2 suggestions V

1. the upper wall texture in the garden area is a little busy imo, when coming form teh charger area its difficult to spot players, especially important when someone is camping with the rpg in there..

2. the base of the rpg tower, clip it so its level and make teh protrusions func_illusionary. If you hit it at teh wrong spot it can knock ya Bhop off

I have never had any problems making out someone standing up there. this is a first i'm hearing about it. anyone else?

You might have forgotten mate but you've already asked me about it last time you were on the map and i answered it was always clipped.

func_illusionary is a no-no (in this case) as it reacts differently to lighting than detail does.

the clipping i meant would be putting it where the hint brush is, but its just a thought, no real benefit..

Played the map yesterday on the ghost server. And i must say nice map guys. Its easy to learn how the map is, After a few minutes off play you know where you are and where to a hallway is heading to.mayby for players that dont like fraggers they shall say to much weapon_ frag in the map. i had almost all the time enough frags to irritate other players :D :D (so dont reduce that plz ).I would like a little more phycis to throw with but that is me.

added an option to shut down the clan logos in case it's disturbing anyone during a match or in general. there is a button in the wall between the ferns in the garden area. see ss

also, a few ppl complained they didn't understand how the stairs lifts work. see image - you need to damage (shoot or use primary fire of Ggun) the wall to open the lifts. works on both sides of the stairs:...

fixed the RPG cabin. cannot be bugged now.
fixed gas canisters not showing colors properly.

LOL I had no idea the lifts were there.

Also...WOW that space looks pretty plain and bare without the logos. I think its the most interesting place in the map.

Only problem is when you hide the posters crossbow does not bounce off the surface. which is a shame in this sort of area because very useful for blind bank shot kills.

Hi, I'm a lil late on this, kind of a lil late on everything, but my 2 cents:
Very fluent to get around, no problems in learning it (I should say, at its size!) and weapons are easy to get, but that's also a bad thing, there's no trap or anything for the rpg, just a subtle warning and the necessity to get in that room.. I know, it's your style and you ain't gonna change it, but this works better for bigger maps, IMHO :D Still, even with that in mind, it's pretty balanced and perfect for a 1vs1 or 2vs2. If more than 4 players, you run out of weapons and canisters.. and ideas and start crowbarin lol Maybe there should be one prop or two, as someone already stated.. Too late on that, final version released..
As for the hof, it's juuuust beautiful :) And at one time thought the map was bigger and ended up in another place, when that button was pressed :oops: Very nice name for it :)

good idea. i'll pimp up the walls in next version. this one was focusing on gameplay just took out the logos and color correction and released as is.
