OK, I'm kind of embarrassed to ask this but how the fuke do you create the moving platforms that go up and down when you stand on them?? I made a killbox map (practice) a long time ago and knew how to do it but now for the life of me I can't remember and I can't find a tutorial on how to do it. Please help!!

Thanks. I used Entspy on a few maps and it looks like they are all setup as func_door but for the life of me I still can't figure it out. Lets just say that I'm a complete noob at mapping (I pretty much am) and would like to see step by step instructions on how to do this. Can anyone help? I know this is simple cuz I done it before but I just can't figure it out now!!

All I want is a platform on the ground that lifts me up to a preset location as soon as I step on it. Then it will pause for a few seconds then go back down.

Thanks in advance!

Go to the link my first hl2dm map or what ever, it's sticky on this department. There you find all you need.

Remember when I wrote this in my first post:

  That was exactly where I figured out how to do this before *slaps hand on forehead*.

So thanks for your help!! It's much appreciated! I'll try not to be stupid next time, LOL!

or, If you are too lazy to look through all of it:

Make a quite thin square brush with your block tool, on the ground and lined up to go between the platforms you want to connect it to, so that if it goes straight up it will be flush beside them. Remember, if you have "snap to grid" enabled, you can hold ALT while adjusting the sides to make small changes.

Click on the brush with your selection tool, push CTRL + T to make it an entity . Scroll down the list with the little arrow and make it a "func_door"

you need to set the following values:
speed - around 250 will be quite slow, around 750 will be quite fast. You might want to fiddle around with this number on subsequent versions, say for example if you want the lift to go fast but you don't want the lift to catapult people.
Move direction (Pitch Yaw Roll) – set this to UP (in the drop-down menu)
Lip – this should be -(the height of your platform) that is, negative the value of how high the platform you want to reach (I think.) With this one, you will probably have to approximate and adjust later after testing, unless you are happy with "close enough"

the rest of the values, if you know what you are doing you can fiddle with them but they are nonessential and you might foul it up.
