Are mirrors possible? (on materials)

I mean, water does dinamicaly reflect the environment, so I was wondering if it might be possible to do the same with a flat texture to simulate a mirror.
Even if using a custom flat water texture, and even if having to use a player clip to prevent revealing splashes if the player touches it.

The only problem I found while testing with water textures for now was that their reflections are buggy when the water is built verticaly.

But even tho, I'm wondering. Anyone ever tried it?

i dont know anything about making maps but i do know the scope on the xbow is like a mirror, so if you cold get that texture and maybe enlarge it?

the player = you , i mean u can see yourself in a mirror only in orangebox engine... in this old one u can't see youself...
i also guess u can make a camera and a screen, it would look like a mirror

and here is something else http://www.snarkpit.net/index.php?s=forums&f=6&t=8549

ok... so I concluded that mirrors can only be achieved in the floor in this engine version. They work wonderfully, but never in a vertical side of the brush... Gets weird artifacts if done verticaly.

In the orange box it's easily achievable with a func_reflective_glass and a reflective glass material (which uses water properties aswell). (with particular attention to not have water or portals in a visible leaf)

A camera isn't an effective way, because you'd have to make the camera move in the opososite direction of the player direction (and at an equivalent speed) so that it could resemble the angles of a mirrored image. I dunno how that is possible...

Meh... Damn valve for never updating this game...

Thx Monarch

EDIT: Can someone explain to me how the hell we can fade a func_brush??? I'm not getting it..

I know, but the point is mirroring the surroundings. Even in the orange box mirrors you can't see yourself. Perhaps only in portal.
