hi there

just released a new one..
called: dm_bk_ExAnimalis_rc2

its a midsize killbox but feeling more like a arena/dome like map..
build for gravitys around 500 +/- 100 (500 is a good value for the jumps in this map)

and has....

16 spawnpoints
8 lifts / with lil differences in lift-speed n jumping possibilitys /
5 rotating platforms / 1 on upper center platform + 4 satellites /
4 speed-tubes / (sry..working but still lil buggy at the moment.. hope 2 fix them soon)
4 ballspawner / each with 1 ball and a 80 sec. respawn-time /
3 ladders /
2 teleports / both in steady random mode with restricted access by rotating door-rings (blocking them will hurt u) + some audio-visual teleport-effects
1 supercharger / supercharger is protected by a energy-shield (will hurt u on touch when active)

buttons:

button 1: / switching off/on the rotating platforms
button 2: / disable superchargers energy-shield for 6 secs (means a max of 100 suitpoints on 1 charge..tricky .)
button 3: / disables upper platforms floorshield for 15 secs
button 4: / switching off/on both plasma beam effect in maps center
button 5: / for switching off all 4 ballspawners
button 6: / for open the supply unit device , 20 sec delay till closing again

crowbar
slams
grenades
3X 357
3X x-bow
5X shotgun
5X ar2 (3X orbs)
lots of physics (BK+A custom phys)
and new .) 5X [BK] custom skinned explosive barrels

Also not a big killbox fan but I can see you've put a fair bit of work into this one. I'll have a run around when I can and get back to you.

Going off the screenies alone you've done a lot of work on the texture alignment and it has some very detailed shapes for a killbox type map but the lighting doesn't do this justice - if you play around with your light falloff and attenuation values you could get some really interesting overlapping shadows going on.

wow, you've made quite a leap with this map. BTW what's the name mean ??


Some great shapes and interesting brush work, and great texturing with it too, you've really tied it in well.
I particularly like the 2 tone floor (texture) effect and the ceiling brushwork.

Game play looks to be solid too, puts me in mind of Sadist's dm_futuristic. It should have loads of varied game play options esp with the bottom area and whole trigger push system down there.

I liked the lighting, it seems you varied the light maps some but I see Boshed's point as its one i commonly over looked. Maybe approach it with 'having a good uniformity for brightness but try to accentuate some key areas too'.

PS: love the map pimpage decal you got in there :D

Curiously I had just stumbled on this map in fpsbananas yesterday :mrgreen:

Well, it caught my eye and I left a tab on my firefox open to download it and I sent the link to a friend who has a killbox server. Been a bit busy but I'll give it a go when I can.
Looks pretty cool and out of the ordinary (something very few mappers ever done). I like round shapes btw. Can't say much more until I play around in it... but looks like orbs may have a few places to bounce around and around. :D

I kinda agree with boshed on the lighting, but I can't say why or what is missing. Its not bad but could have some little something more that I can't rly describe... even to myself... Lighting isn't my strong point. :p

There's reasons behind the level of reproduction of this species tho. Being the easiest kind of map to get done, noob mappers tend to make them for practice, and they see that they can easily get maps released with them. 3 textures, 1 bright light, 10 brushes, 10 minutes, and they have a map.

Since neither the mappers, nor most players seem to care even a bit for that, this species have a higher reproduction rate than roaches... :mrgreen:

Sadly there's very few like this one here...

Looks great!! Nice looking textures and angles to the gameplay. I am not a big killbox fan either but I will definitely give this one a playtest on our [FF] servers! Thanks for all your hard work and contributions to HLDM!!

cause after some of the first "feedback" posts i was like :shoot:

bout the name,. its latin.. just means deadly/mortal..
kind of double.. dm_mortal.. :lol: but sounds better

hmm yes lights/shadows.. i´m not really good on lighting (missing experience)
n i agree with boshed.. the first version had more, sharper shadows
but on testing some people sayed its too dark in some areas.. :?
so i put some more lights in.. n go for the thing popper says...

hey skaruts.. sometimes a full circle with orbs in the basement is possible..
crossbow bolts can do some nice bounces on the walls too :)

another funny thing is combination of slams and the rotating stuff.. :lol:
