2 questions: pakrat and caps

1- I usualy use pakrat's Auto button when I want to include custom stuff, but it will also find the .ain and .cache files and include them.
Is this ok or does it create any possible issues?

2- Also, sometimes I think about how linux servers can't handle caps in names, and I never made that mistake.
But I was wondering, what about entity names and stuff like that. If they include caps, will that effect linux servers too?

1. No, infact you can manually remove those if you want to. Keep an eye on things when using auto. Pakrat is old as dirt and not the best option these days and will miss files using the auto feature.

2. Pretty sure capitalizing ent names and whatnot has no effect.

ok thx.
well, I usualy use pakrat cuz I dunno what else I could use. But so far it has been very good. I usualy double-check what he's adding automaticaly and see if everything is ok, tho. So far so good.
But what are ppl using now instead?

Ive been using packbsp, but it's not perfect either. The good thing about it is that it is being continuously updated.

here is the website for downloading it http://technofovea.com/blog/projects/packbsp

holyshit. now octagon packs as 30kb omg wow???!!!
jk. downloading it now. ;)

BTW, using caps in map name is bad across the board; linux or win. and only in the mapname. anything inside the BSP is irrelevant and not read by the server but by the engine.

Yea, I was concerned about that, cuz as far as I've seen ppl talking around, there seems to be quite a few things that create issues with linux servers.

Anyway, thx for the feedback and tips guys.

EDIT: Actualy, yea, I'd like to know all known mapping stuff that can create issues with servers, both linux and windows.

hi

i also used packrat doing the job..
but sadly misses lots of files in auto-mode most times,
needs alot of work setting paths n filesnames, or adding missed content.. :?

see MAN Map Analyst.. http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Map_Analyst
its easy to use and worked at the first try my end.. no boring path editing anymore :)

maybe helps.. cheers
