Capture Point Maps?

Earlier today I was playing when someone asked if the server had any Capture Point maps. Previously, I had been unaware that these could be made for HL2DM.

Because about ten minutes of Googling didn't turn anything up, I decided I might aswell ask here.

Is there such thing as a cp map in hl2dm?

I can only recall ctf_warpath and ctf_powerplant (or something like that) and the cancelled king_air (the original game mode, peepz).

i honestly don't see how any gameplay type other than the stock type can catch on in this community when even the slightest shifts from it aren't being accepted.

google "bisounours party" (hl2 mod), I played a cp map there, the mod itself is loads of fun :D and plenty of mods within the mod, like this (shoot the player into the abyss to score):

Bisounours was a fun mod, sadly the Devs gave up on it. To quote the Devs " there were only two players and maybe one server some where in India, we have decided to go do some drugs and are releasing the source code for the players to finish"

It's so odd that so many mods come out that are really fun to play, but people can't be bothered to take the time to DL and play something different once in awhile. :(

hmm when i played i managed to convince 2 or 3 friends to play with me and we had a blast and there were like 5 servers at least, sad to hear all this. and yet alien swarm is so popular ffs :D
well if anyone's up for dl/play, lemme know

Charles, Kingair was a cp map? I think I downloaded (what I think) was the beta but I didn't see any capture points.... o.o

anyways, back on topic, I'm really not sure. It's probably possible, if you're an absolute Hammer master (erm, ahem, VALAR :D) but if it was out I'd play it. It would be really interesting to see capture points implemented in such a fast-paced game.

I have a vmf with capture points made on it. I even had a dude make a model similar to that in TF2 lol. I was planning on using the vmf as an example map for our hl2ctf coder to get capture point logics made easier for hl2ctf mapping. Either way, CP is very doable in hl2dm. Warpath is a prime example. Props to the hammer logics god KUSA.

Is there a tutorial or something?

if there was a tutorial you could make i'd try my best to make some maps from it, to at least spice up the game.

this is talking about a HL2DM MOD not a totally different game. most people don't have the open-mindedness to be able to play a certain game in a different way.

Well, I was asking if there was a tutorial that could teach ME how to do it.
Because I don't know how. This guy is asking me multiple times every time I see him to make him a cp map, after I told him I would try to find out if it's possible.

Since you have the vmf do you think you could figure out how to do it? Or is there a tutorial? My main question right now is if anyone is willing/able to share how to do it.

The vmf is one I made so yeah, I know how to do it. I used warpath as my tutorial on how to do it. I stripped it all down though to the basic cp logics. Basically its a map with 5 cps and a wall next to each that has a color block to show which cps belong to combine and which belong to the rebels and the cp model I had made for it. Granted, the pic here is with Hl2:CTF, but the logics are the same as in dm. I built this to show the hl2ctf devs what all went into making a cp map in hl2dm/hl2ctf work. So it is what it is.
Image
The biggest issue with cp though is that there isnt a "round_end" like in TF2. Therefore, you have to kill all the players on the map in order to start the round over. Just check out warpath for hl2dm if you want to get a better under standing of how cp works in dm. The vmf I built is based off of it's logics and is basically identical other then the much improved capture point model.

Couldn't you theoretically just place a huge teleport over the entire map, teleport all players to a black section in the map that strips them of weapons, and have them teleport back to pre-game spawns?

And would you happen to have Kusa's VMF files or the GU FTP? He had a king_ vmf, CP vmf, 2 ctf vmfs (one required you to have a flag at base to cap and allowed you to return your own flag), jump pad vmfs, and all other sorts of unused goodies that are unfortunately never going to see the light of day.

I'm new to the HL2DM community, so
1, What's warpath?
2, What's hl2ctf?

If someone could just tell me how to do this, or give me a download link to a vmf...

There were 4 or 5 CTF (capture the flag) maps made for straight HL2DM that I know of. I am not talking about the CTF mod.

tdm_riot_b1 http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/4620
forestfortress http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/5592
warpath http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/4630
2fort (notsure where to find the DM version of this)
ctf_battlefield http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/5591

There was one in a mine complex but I dont remember the name of it

FPSbanana.com has a bunch of ctf maps but I think those are for the ctf mod. Be careful though that website tends to get alot of viruses so make sure you have a good one installed before downloading from there.

1. Warpath is a map.
2. It's a capture the flag mod.

And we don't know how, sacrifist does though.

Yes there is. Try playing on this server
94.75.238.115:27015 - Nemesis ctf (Nederlands)

In that server there's 3 capture point maps running in it's map cycle.
Warpath
Powerplant
Avanti (this one requires a flag to be caried through points)

And then it has some more maps that are capture the flag.
2fort
Terminal
School
Bedroom Warfare
Forest Fortress
Pedestal
NFS
and more...

There are not many ctf/cp maps in hl2dm bacause it's not easy to make it work well. In all they must not be more than 20-25 maps.

The only problem I see in these maps are that some of them were made from porting Team Fortress maps into hl2dm, and the mapper was noobish enough to make the weapons and items layout annalogous to TF's ammo rooms... This creates a noobish cheap-spam-fest all over them all. It's not very hard in these maps to see 8 players with RPG fighting 8 players with RPG. It's that cheap.

The maps that came next unfortunately were made following the same trend, so they aren't much better. The only map that can be considered a better map (in my honest and worthless opinion) is ctf_terminal, which has a decent weapons layout, and mimics quake flag system (can't capture the flag while enemy holds my flag).

That could possibly work, but Im pretty sure the strip part doesnt work very well in hl2dm. As for Kusa's vmfs, I have Avanti, rock2, warpath, 2fort, and Well. When I had access to his ftp, those were basically all that was in there. Jump pads are easy though and I believe the flag at base map you are talking about is Avanti. Not sure what the king_map is though.

As for a shift and playing it yes it is true those that are left in the community don't accept any alterations hardly but 1ce apon a time in dm land there was an awesome mod called hax mod lol it was based apon the original tfc but it was broken when FIOS update was released I still have quite a few of the old notes from the originator of the mod but the coding was all done in the server.dll and have yet to find a coder that is actually willing to help bring back the mod either through the dll or through scripts IF ANY ARE OUT THERE PLS PM ME!!!! but so many of the players that had played it back then were addicted to it the server was full constantly and it had a playerslot of 28 now for DM this is considered insane but it was the only way to be able to get on the server also the balance that had been put into place through the classes was awesome those that do remember the mod may only be about 2-4 ppl still in this community but inactive such as ko-tao while a few that are from that age of dm hardly played the mod we had Corrosive aka Durden Sadistical Tuna Seagull Constipator many a member from {pDs} all frequents apon the server its a shame that the mod was ruined so early in the game and if irc Valve @ the same time as the ruination of the mod announced tf2 :(

HA! don't mean no disrespect brother but back in the day GDawgg had for a while there a server playing only one map which was (are you ready) an empty room with some pickups lying around and that's it. i mean - nothing there: e.g. a no-map map. the server was PACKED 24-7.
you think people won't bitch ever if EP3 or HL3 came out tomorrow with a shinning new MP? you know they will.

Funny thing; First went into #hl2dm and then these forums about three days ago. When I first went into the IRC channel, ko-tao told me about that mod =D
It sounds like wicked fun, and I really would help you with it if I could.

edit: i'm checking out the warpath bsp right now, but i'm not sure if it's what i was thinking of...

EDIT: It's just what I needed, where can I find a vmf of this?

Oh. NOW I remember koth_lostvillage. I guess you could extract the code from there... if you guys still have the map. It does have potential as I've seen a ton in my future maps, but it will most likely never be used.

What I meant by having a flag at base can be seen at my own map, ctf_revolution_b4. It works like HL2CTF mod; you can only capture when you have your flag in your base, but you can return your team's flag by trying to grab or shoot it and have it respawn shortly in your base.
