HL2DM OB Immaculate Map Pack

Since all Pre OrangeBox maps look and perform pretty bad and many are broken or half broken (not to mention not making ANY use of the slew of new features in the current engine) i've decide to take on a project of revamping and re-compiling all stock and custom maps and release in several map packs.

The custom maps i will include will initially be those i think should make the cut and i'm opened to suggestions:

If anyone thinks a certain map should be included in the project please post the name of the map and if info available; the author as well. if i don't have that map it will be up to that person suggesting it to provide a DL link.
Some maps will not be included in this like Octagon for example for technical reasons - i just can't be arsed with such a huge although amazingly done map.
I want to make it clear this project does not regard or claim authoring rights or claim permissions. in simple words - i don't care about permissions since i'm not going to put my name in anywhere or benefit from this other than enjoy them on my servers. the idea is to have a working set of maps that are making full use of the current engine and that are compatible with it as well as removing any broken entities / functionalities from maps that didn't make the port in one piece.

Any questions, clarifications feel free. . .

So are you just going to fix the ones that dont work at all?? I would think you may have more issues then originally be decompiling some of them, but most maps do well with a decompile. Im just curious what your actual plans are. You just planning to decomp and then recompile, rebuild cubemaps and make sure they work? Or are you planning to decomp, optimize it more, fix lighting and other obvious issues, recompile in ldr and hdr, rebuild cubemaps, make sure it works, then re release?

Theres a special spot in my heart for dm_7hour and even before the update it was in desperate need of optimization. I remember I tried to contact the creator of it but he never answered so if the map needs an edit then it should be fine, I dont think he'd mind anyway.

BTW, old topic...WTF so much shit in lockdown!!!! i mean seriously...i can't get over it no matter how many times I see it. 90% utterly useless/broken crap and 10% uber unoptimized map holly cow!!!
that hallowed area behind the shotty toilets?...that's not even from the game. this must be something that was worked on during beta, didn't make it to the final SP version yet it was just left in there!!! then they made the MP version and still left it in there (unreachable breakables, func_doors, sounds, math_counters and a slew of user groups that make no sense at all). i'd be a fly on the wall when that guy worked on LD... must've been like 10 min job lmao. ok here's your map. done. next.

best part is reading how some ppl praise this map like it's some holy grail. talk about fools' chance.

I think its better then overwatch, but both are terrible. Btw, Im well aware you can just decomp it with vmex lol. I assumed you would ask him for the vmf though. Isnt he still in tsgk? After thinking it over, Id rather work on my map then mess with caverns lol. I will help you out with some older maps though if you want. Optimizing, fixing lights, cubemapping and recompiling isnt that big of deal. I do worry a little for you though, as some of those older maps are not optimized for shit and wont compile well unless you damn near rebuild them. Ive decomped older maps and was amazed they would even compile lol.

Has a bad spawn which gets you stuck which didnt happen in old engine and crossbow doesnt spawn also too much crap laying around.

Update:

Most maps in the port to OB have major issues. as in, more than i've initially realized. lighting needs to be redone for the most part.
although, it is no big surprise that levels that were made by skilled and tidy mappers like Ko-Tao's aim_arena_reloaded look and play the same even after the port. big ups to you Ko. bio on the other hand is just a big mess. bigger than lockdown (yes, that's possible). the amount of illegal brushes, leaks and lighting errors is overwhelming.

For some odd reason I haven't been able to play bio since the update. Game freezes on d/l of graph, and then I have to kill hl2 in task manager. I uninstalled/reinstalled so we'll see what happens...

i have a shittest pc eva, all games and mods based on source 2007 are wild laggy to me - they launch 10 minutes and connect to the server about 5 minutes. FPS is very bad and game runs like a piece of shit, always fps drops to 5 , that's the worst i could imagine

idk what did he do, but Sub-Zero's mod runs even better than the old hl2dm, it launch immediately and works perfectly smooth. damm smooth...

If u want to fix fps - ask Lich aka Skaruts too, he's a real genious on that

As for me, I like if u want to fix something doesnt work anymore on the new engine, but i dont like if u remake them like put smth of yourself or make a bad fps or put the same name :0 but u made so many nice maps, so we can trust u

Im not surprised. You are like me when it comes to mapping. You cant handle seeing shitty brushwork, errors, leaks, and other shoddy ass work. Everytime I decomp an older dm map to look at it, it rather has tons of things that make me cringe, or it was done by someone that knows wtf they are doing. In dm, the better built maps (that are played a lot) are rare imo. So, yes, you are going to have your hands full. I'd love to split the load with you on this, but I just dont have the damn time to help you out much right now. Best bet is to start with the most played maps and go from there I guess.

Would be cool if someone could make biohazard run for everyone asap as it's an often played map in Europe at least. Can't live without mah biohazard :(

That sucks. I reinstalled and still no go on bio. Oh well. I should try it on the OB mod and see if it works.

There is a way to make biohazard run for those who freeze at the download graph.
Just set mat_dxlevel 90 in your config and it should work again.
