My 9800 GX2 review

Ok fellas, i just bought a new system with the Geforce 9800 GX2.

All i've got to say is:

Unless you REALLY REALLY WANT to go dual monitor.


2 x 8800GTX SLI > 1x 9800 GX2


8800 wins it. On my screen that is.

I needed to dual monitor wich is a pain in the ass with SLI so i went 9800gx2

Why did you feel this way? Is it less frames your seeing or benchmarks your running or what? I have been wondering about this card, Im currently using 2 8800 GT's in sli on 24" @ 1920 x 1200. Been thinking of putting together a new computer so unless a new generation of cards come out before I get to that point I was trying to decide about this 9800 series.

SLI isnt nearly as good as it is made out to be.

at a high res like 1920 x 1200, yes it is. My testing reveals about 30% more fps vs one card.

It's been a while since I've been on this subject, so I may be wrong when I say this but as far as I know, the 9800 is basically a pair of 8800 GPUs that have been SLI'd on the card with a few tweaks

As for performance, I've caught quite a few owners of it reporting that they had to "seperate" the GPUs so they could run dual monitors which also resulted in a drop in performance

The 280 260 gtx's have just come out, but it looks like the 48xx series might do better than expected, and what Nvidia is doing with their prices is going to make a big difference in the market.

After seeing this benchmark on AnandTech with the resolution I use for gaming,

I feel better than ever about my decision to buy and run two 8800 GT's in SLI. Considering they only cost me $320.00 total for two BFG OC'd cards, I cant see spending 650.00 for one new GTX280 or 500.00 for one new GX2.

Def a good deal for 320 dollars, the 260 and 280 aren't doing all that great compared to where they should be at.
