hi all,

Im about to start messing with the sdk for hl2dm. I have never delved into game programming before, from what I hear it's mainly C. I haven't done any research on this yet. I know there a few on here who are much more familiar with it than most.

So my question is: Can you point me in a direction for persuing some research on building a mod using source? My ultimate goal is to create a game mod, thus giving me something to present when looking for a job. Almost got that degree....

I'm interested in doing this myself. I started a section in the dmu wiki for it. Maybe as you research you can help me pad it out?

Hit me up for a wiki logon if interested.

It's actually C++, but I'll try to dig up some links.

i strongly suggest you first get your hands SOAKED in mapping before you jump into moding. there is a lot to learn in level design and in Source.
Any previous experience with any 3D apps? other game engines? any related background?

C++ is even better since I've never dealt with C. I have pretty much no experience really. console applications is about it and I've never done mapping, nor have I utilized any 3d graphics yet (will be soon in). Ive had a semster of VB, semester of Python, semester of C++ Level 1, SQL, HTML, DOS, UNIX, Access, Excess, Logic/Design 1 & 2. So yeah, nothing major, no graduate school courses yet. Gotta start somewhere I suppose.

Many thanks Keeper for the upcoming links.
