HL2DM problem

Hi there guys ,

I think you have read posts like this a millon and one times right .
I did search the forum looking for a fix but i found nothing of help.
But if there was some thing please point me to it if you cant help me here as i need it big style .

Been having alot problems trying to join my friends server's of late and its like omg what the hell you know what i mean ,
And this is what i am getting "server not responding" all the time on my friends server and i could join it before well all there servers But now i cant .I have not add any thing new to my internet i still have same as what i had before when i could join hes server .which is netgear Wireless-N router which was fine with this server/s. I did read some where about port forwarding but not sure how to set that in the router to try it out as its asking for ip as well but when i had the server ip its telling me "This IP Address should be in the same subnet LAN IP Adress !"I dont have a clue what that means i know nothing about setting up settings internet in router and stuff like that .But if some one tels me i will then look and i will understand what your saying . I have never had this problem before in all the years that i have played the game .So was wondering
if any of you guys know why as its driving me crazy .

It has been like this for sometime, for some reason if you use a router steam detects the internal IP of 192.168.1.66:27015 (or similar) instead of the actual external IP so the server is only joinable if you are on the local network, when Iwas usign a USB modem people could join my servers no problem.

Yeah i am trying to join pub server not lan one .
Yes when i was usb was like that ,But the funny thing is i could join the servers all Ghost ones uk .But now cant even tryed in hlsw to join but saying servers timed out .

So i dunno how to fix this problem its real pain in the bum lol

If you think of any thing let me know or others please as this is crazy .

I've had that problem too.

The solution is, instead of trying to connect to it either through the console command or the friends tab of server list, you need to

go find it on the main server list.

dont see the servers that way that i am looking for .

I thnk some one up there is trying to tel to give up hl2dm lol ..

this is more than likely not your issue, its his. let me ask you this, did your friend just recently get a router? YOU dont need to port forward anything, but if you friend is hosting locally HE needs to do that. you are seeing the server, you just cant access it. if i had to guess your friend is hosting a lan server and does not have his set up correct for external access. and all you are getting to is his router and then getting blocked. there is some more info you need to post like, where is his server being hosted? you also asked about lan and wan. simply this means local area network and wide area network, im not going to explain what that means cause you can just google it.

Well I see this all the time in steam. I try to join a friends server while I am in game and sometimes just too see where my friends are playing and I get the "Server not responding" error. If I ALT-TAB the game, I can see the server and join it.

Its pub server not lan server .
I could get in it last week but cant now i have had windows updates dont i think that would do any thing.

+ I tryed the portforwarding and was open but still cant get in the servers

I have looked all over the net for a way to fix this and no one as the real answer to this .
But i see alot have this problem but most of the ones i come across are people talking about lan and cant join them but for me its not lan its pub server .
And was thinking toiinstall windows to see if it would fix the problem but i am not going to wast time doing to find out that its still same .then i will just go crazy lol i am getting there .

I'm sure it would be a lot easier for us to understand your issue if you would type coherently...

Is your friend making the server through the dedicated server tool, or in game, or is it a purchased server?

•If he's using the dedicated server tool, it's likely (almost definitely) a problem with router ports.
•If he's making it in game, make sure he types sv_lan 0 in console, then heartbeat, and wait a couple minutes after he hosts it, then it should be in the master games list. You'll have to connect from there or it will say "not responding"
•If he bought it, tell him to bitch at the provider and/or get his money back.

Failing that, check your firewall settings. Or turn it off entirely, if it's just windows firewall.

Its a pay online server .

Not LAN
Not dedicated server tool .

Yes sorry about the wording lol .I had just done 16 hours at work was abit tired.

Whats the ip of thsi server so we can see if it works for us.

well, for him to be able to see servers and join them and not one server would require him to use some advanced firewall settings. since he said he doesnt know much about that i doubt thats it. possibly did your friend ban you from the server. perhaps its a setting he has in his ban config file that is blocking your access. do you have another steam account with hl2 that you could try to connect to it with? and possibly he banned you by ip address. if he is using something like mani and banned you joking around but did it permently instead of temp.

Funny you should say that about the ban thing,As thats what i did ask him all so ,And he said no but i think yes but not 100% sure .

I did try it with another account all so but was still same out come Server not responding .

So i dont know whats going .All i do no is that its a real pain in the bum lol ..

I did all so ask another friend on my list to see if he can join and he could np .Then i tryed to join of him and no joy .

that is really crazy. i would submit a ticket to steam support man. i think thats your best bet here
