Private Server issues

I'm not sure this is the best place for this post, but wth?

I'm having problems joining servers with passwords. Everytime I try to "join" a game from a friends link, I get a "bad password" message and disconnect.

Instead, I have to get the direct IP address, start the game, add the server to my favs, and join the server... then no problem with passwords.

I'm convinced it probably has something to do with my Steam settings. But I'm stumpered.

Any suggestions?

weird ... usually if I press in the join option, either I join without any problem, or the input password box pops up.

A couple of my team members started having trouble with that last night. Could it be a steam problem?

Yes, the password box pops up, I put in the password, it starts to load... then disconnects telling me the password is bad.

Could be I suppose. Maybe Steam put some protection into the friends thingy due to all the account hijacks.

But it's usually operator error on my my part.
